No experience on a bike unfortunately. Would the bike more top heavy or have any issue due to me being taller or heavier than the average rider? If not I think I'll be heading to the local bike shop to see how they feel.

And since when is a Ducati 848 Evo a good starter bike? O.o

you won't notice the difference at all I promise. (I'm 6'6")

BUT on that note, depending on your inseam, definitely try out different bikes. Like I said above, most bikes are oriented for the 5'8" or so crowd, so you will be on a couple bikes that just won't work for you at ALL. find that out before you buy it

I wont notice the difference form a Ducati 848 Evo and a Ninja 600r? I would think the power difference alone would make me notice it. On top of that it's italian vs japanese. And I'd much rather have a japanese bike for starter than an italian anyways. (reliability and all) Guess I just need to go see what works.

Guessing no one knows how the weight thing will work out? Worried I might be too top heavy, and no real way to figure that out except get out and ride...

Another headlight question...I was passing a bike yesterday (not crotch rocket) and it seemed like the headlight was "strobing" or switching back and forth between low and high beam. Is that a setting or something?

modulator is what its called.

Some riders like it, some don't. The basic point is to draw attention to you and make people aware of your existance. My issue with is it I think it's distracting and you lose the ability to 'communicate' on the bike (i.e. flashing your lights manually)

So I guess it won't be a problem for me to cruise around with mine on then.

It's apparent there's no getting through the thick "helmets" of riders. It's dangerous and illegal.

I knew there'd be a couple motorcycle 'haters' in this thread. Congrats on being the second.

We're answering questions, we're not saying what is wrong or right, legal or illegal. We're simply giving you the answer that a motorcycle rider would give you.

Feel free to take your condescending attitude somewhere else. I'm willing to bet at least 1/2 of the time that you get in a car you're doing something that's even more dangerous, and just as illegal.

Nah, I think I was the first in this thread.

Fair enough. Just hoping to make people think about what they are doing and how it affects others.

I'm being not condescending, when earlier someone almost blantantly said that his own safety was more importand than anybody elses. My attitude is warranted. I drive my car like a grandma 95% of the time, obeying every traffic law that I know of. The only times I'm only dangerous or break the law is when I am sure there is no one else around I can hurt other than myself. And if I'm breaking the law it's probably by going 5-10 over the posted speed limit and maybe a loud exhaust.

And as I recall, you are the one who posted something about standing five feet in front of your headlights and not being blinded. I have a question. Do you understand how the light pattern of headlights work at all?

First off you quoted a guy who wasn't promoting his own safety, simply giving you a response. That's why I'm calling it condescending. It's one thing to quote someone who is saying they don't care about anyone else on the road and only concerned with their own safety.
Secondly, so you use your turn signals every single time you make a turn? You make a full stop every single time? You've never cut anyone off? These are all exactly the reasons why motorcycles go the route of super safety...

And I completely understand how headlights work which is why I was comparing the difference between a large SUV with normal lights vs a bike with brights. The SUV right on my ass (or right in front of me) is more blinding than the bike.

Not sport bikes though. I'm 5' 10" and I have to stand on tippy tow on a sports bike at factory height.

must be your inseam then? I'm rather confident I read several articles where they said that sportsbikes are targeted for the 5'8"-5'10" crowd

I agree. Upcoming traffic may think you are flashing your headlight to let them go ahead and take a left in front of you. I do like moodulators for the brake lights though. I had mine setup so it flashes only on the first 5 seconds, then it would stay solid.

You may be right. They may have designed it based on the rider's position with the feet tucked in, not standing. I guess the height is irrelevant in that sense when you are in motion. Is the inseam the pants size in length?

Had mine done up that way as well. Flashes 3 times, then stays on solid. Kinda like the 3er lights that show brighter the harder you step on the brake pedal

inseam to oversimplify is your crotch to your feet.

He wasn't promoting his own safety? I'm beginning to wonder if you've read this thread.

And yes to all of your questions. Why is it so hard for you to believe that someone abides by the laws that were put into place for the safety of everyone who uses public roads? I didn't always, but first and secondhand experience has taught me valuable lessons.

The point I was trying to make about you standing five feet in front of your bike is that you obviously won't be blinded until you stand further away. Light from a high beam headlamp, dependant on many different variables, typically projects in a conical beam pattern, hence the closer you stand the less likely your eyes will actually be in the path of light. Five feet is probably not close enough to be in that beam pattern.

and I want to know where you live that over 50% of the sports bikes on the road are riding like aholes. Refer to my above resentment comment or this one, because I call bs on the reality of that.
You must be 1 of them based on this reply. It was a legit post based on what I see. I live an hour or so west of Philly. I see it everywhere I go..NJ, PA, DE, MD...

Don't like riders? LOL A good friend of mine has had a few bikes & I will get 1 eventually, but thanks for ASSuming, tool.

I call bs on you.

My uncle and brother were both hospitalized at some point due to motorcycle crashes that they caused. So naturally everyone in my family now hates motorcycles.

But my brother and uncle are idiots and I'm, well, I'm not an idiot and I've always wanted to learn. Am I crazy?

It also helps that motorcycles get into HOV lanes with only a single rider
