Let's see...I would pick the 93 Escort over the AWD M3

The escort with three turbos and 1000whp at $5-7k.

+1 this thread is full of fail. There is a reason I'm selling my high hp 335i and moving on to a more reliable platform. I've been following the N54 since day 1 and it has made leaps and bounds, but to compare the 2 is flat out rediculous.

One word... sleeper... 335i single turbo

Three letters... RWD... more fun and requires better driving skill

Everyone and their guido mom has a GTR. I see way to many tools and dumb asses on the track who think because they have a GTR they are Mario Andretti.

If we wanna talk marginal price range, give me an e92 M3 with a stroker kit, cams, built motor, and alms body kit . 530hp from an N/A... win...

Not to mention no worries in technical overheating turbo problems.

EDIT: This is a pretty conservative stroker dyno. Weight reduction and this thing would poop on a GTR's chest around a track...

Yep no problem!

It said 700 for hp on the side of the car...but all the numbers were given by the drivers themselves...So it was basically on an honestly policy as decided by Shift Sector..Anyways not doubting the numbers but just letting you know...It did well at the event but definately couldnt keep up with some of the big dogs..

It was just respectable to see a car like that outside its element and still competing..Now a track might be a different story

No, far from the only street legal R34, there are several in the States including mine.

I think if everyone were to take a race in a 600whp 335 running m3 links/bushings, sway bars, properly dialed-in JZR suspension, LSD and a good tire/wheel combination, they would be very surprised in how it stacks up to the GTR. No, it will never have the mechanical grip as the Nissan. But it can possibly handle better and be a lot more involving and fun. As well as quieter, more conformable and with true seating for 4-5 adults.

I'm jelly. When I move to Manila I'm 100% picking up a R34. Would love to see some pics of yours.

Agreed. When it comes down to it at the end of the day a single turbo 335 would be my car of choice.

If you paid 20k for the 335i, what would the total cost be for all those mods you listed?

I've found them at that price with less that 20k miles the last few months.

All very valid points but... that mechanical grip/DCT combo you speak of is what makes it such an amazing car. It is what makes a GTR, a GTR. Driving the car is easy and any driver at any skill level can drag/track the car with consistency and repeatable results. This is true testament to the engineering of that car from the ground up. No matter how great or how powerful a 335i is; it will not run a 7:24 on the 'ring, or run faster than a 458 and even a Veyron around the top gear test track. Nor will it be praised by automotive journalists worldwide, nor will it win car of the year, nor will it consistently and reliably run 9-10's in the 1/4 with a driver such as my grandma.
