Hi all! New to this forum, as I'm picking up my 'new' N55 335ix tomorrow night. I bought the car on CPO, with two years and 100k miles on warranty. The car currently has 40k, and since I'm buying as a winter car, I'll never reach 100k.

My question is this; I see many of you have various tuning mods done to your cars. What can I do, or not do to mine and still be covered under CPO warranty? I don't want to remove upgrades if something goes wrong, but I wouldn't mind a little extra hp, or exhaust noise.

No one can give you a definitive answer. It all depends on the relationship you have with your adviser/technician. Some people can bring in their fully modded cars for warranty work no problem. Others have to remove their mods before coming in. Your best bet would be to 1.) Go to the regional section of this forum and ask if anyone knows a mod-friendly adviser 2.) Go to the local BMW club meetings where you live and do the same.

Thanks for the reply JohnnyBoost. I apologize for posting that here; I just read the sticky thread about warranty and mods before coming back here.

It was this specific thread that brought me to this forum, and I should have read more before posting.

Looking at the laws on warranties, I doubt they could consider a good Dinan exhaust as bad for the car/engine. That's what's on my e39, but that's not a turbo.

You should be fine with just a Dinan exhaust. If that's all you plan on doing, you can probably just ask your adviser about it.

Anyone have a wastegate rattle? Im at 65k miles and just had the oil filter housing gasket replaced and the coolant expansion tank replaced because they were leaking. I still have a rattle coming from my waste gate. Its really noticeable with the catless dp but when i bring it in with the stock dp they say that the minimal noise is normal.

Nothing but self-inflicted problems on my car.

1. Dropped all the water once
2. Burned the TMAP ground trace in the ECU
3. Ran a two stacked piggybacks on/off for 6months without knowing it
4. Leaves in the ventilator (2x)
5. Disconnected charge pipe
6. Bend pins on the TMAP connector

All fixed for very small money - and some embarrassment

Get to know a technician and stick with one service adviser, try to get a feel of how lenient the dealership is. Some will let certain small things slide, basic bolt on shouldn't be a problem, but if you're going into tuning or upgrading turbo then that's a different story.

I've been fortunate enough to get to know a technician at my dealership, brought in it for 40k service with the JB4 under the hood, he didn't say anything and just did what he needs to. Good luck and have fun with the new car.

Just looking around, haven't been on this forum in awhile. At 158,600 miles now... no problems with engine whatsoever. These things are meant to go for a long while. I don't expect 300k to be out of the question.

It's all personal experience, I have had 2 N55's (1 got totaled) and both of my N55's needed a water pump job. My first at 55K and currently my car now at 63K. Also, I have also had a high pressure fuel pump failure. Typical things that go wrong with the car, yet sometimes you would hope not to replace this basic bullshit and you'd get more reliability for the money you spend.

Regardless, its a great car and I wouldn't get anything. (other than a different BMW). If you can dish out the money for the f30 body n55, I would, less issues I've noticed from my friends that own them.

112KM with no issues? definitely sounds promising. but no one has commented on here with a figure that effectively demonstrates the reliability of this engine. even 112km is a little low to determine at this point. we decided to go for an N52 equipped F10 rather then the N55. while I have an idea of all the extra power i am missing out on, I am definitely enjoying the reliability of the naturally aspirated engines BMW used to make. i am 110KM in with not a single issue, engine runs exactly the same at 110KM vs 60KM when we first bought her.

I am now at 256,000kms with this car. Just switched to the MHD tune. The only issues I have had have been normal wear and tear items. Oil Filter Housing leaked(common), just replaced my clutch, suspension upgrades. The engine itself is clean and strong.

Just turned over 99k. Been FBO for around 14 or so months now. Just did coils and plugs about 10k miles ago. Recently did the ZF trans pan kit with trans fluid. I also changed out the rear diff fluid.

Car feels and runs great.

I got mine with 30k and drove it to 74k without any issues, thats running at the drag strip every other friday, and running some e85 most of the time.

n55 are very strong and reliable
