I have two valves...

And with the number of us chucking out ~300hp these days, I'm not sure one can consider them slow.

I know what you mean but even a 300hp E90 is not exactly fast, granted it is a quick sedan but I for one would not consider it fast, but I am not looking to debate that everyone has their standards and for 90% of people 300HP is plenty and I congratulate those that got around that from these 3L N52s.

Also my message was not intended for those among us for whom 6-700$ for peace of mind was a problem.

But there are those for whom that can be expensive on top of other expenses, car related or not.

All I am saying is that instead of flipping a coin and hoping your engine will not grenade itself from the DISA(S) coming apart, you can simply cut the shaft, remove the flap and seal the top with an external bolt.

Its cheap peace of mind until one can gather the funds to make proper repairs and upgrades to the DISA(S)

Tight as in they wont rotate by hand. This is my first time seeing these in person so I wasn't sure if the flap could/should be moved by hand

I wonder what effects this would have on power...Who wants to be a guinea pig?

I expect a slight drop in low and mid but a slight bump in high rpm as some restrictions will be removed.

Essentially the manifold will be optimized for high rmp

..aka removing the entire function of the DISA adjusters...

Might as well swap back to a single stage manifold. Cheaper (if you consider the time wasted to reverse engineer the intake manifold)

@jeguth1s the flaps should be fairly tight - if they aren't they would rattle and come part over time

Regarding the DISA delete - for a race car this may be ideal to have high end optimization. Also the Disa transitions periods may be undesirable

However, DISA Flaps on all dynos show gain above the non-Disa manifold at high rpm

Sure, but you also get flat spots.

DISA alone gains are minimal up to 10 hp but you sacrifice the linearity of the engine feel. If you do tune the N52 add an additional 12-15 hp.
If I opt not to supercharge my baby I decided I'd do the following:
intake, 91 octane and speed limiter remove tune (AA), and eventually headers - total of about 30 hp increase.

Should gain you ~$10,000 in preventing your engine from grenading.

Yup, they are still working on it. They had another project in front of this so we are just waiting out turn.

From what I have seen, the gasket material seems to disintegrate...I have pulled some out of manifolds where most of it is gone and presumably got sucked into the engine.

That is one of the issues, but not the sole issue.

2006 330xi 6spd.
Heard a flapping noise on the way home one day between 2-3.5k rpm, car felt different driving. My upper disa valve, the smaller one that you need to take off the whole intake manifold, seems to have failed. I can easily move the flap with my fingers. Fortunately the flap is still in place and didn't end up flying off the valve. The other larger disa valve is solid, doesn't move at all.

The thing is that there isn't a metal pin at the top of the smaller valve, and from what I'm reading, there should be. I shook around the intake manifold and it doesn't seem to be in there.
Does anyone know if there is a metal pin at the top of the smaller disa valve?

Anyone heard from GAS in the last month? It looks like they stopped posting on Bimmerforums in December.
