I am talking about THAT dyno... I made declarations about THAT dyno... I am not even saying that the car actually had the power drops... I only said that it "looks like it"

if the rpm's drop but the inertia continues... you will get a loop. that is why most dyno's will stop a run if the rpms stop rising

Totally. It should be a dyno showdown.

Side by Side dynos. Terry with his wife cheering him on. Shiv with his Nob Hill / Marina District girls who are just obliging so they can get another ride in the Lambo.

They would stare each other down. They would grasp their respective tuning devices in their hands.

Steve Dinan would start the "race". First he would collect $100 from each onlooker (but you get a warranty!).

This battle of tuners would be settled. Who's gonna set this up?

The second to the last one may be the key here.
It says, "coding and programming changes".

Man if i had a 2008, I'd be hitting the dyno immediately, and then doing all I can to find a couple stock 2007/2007.5 car to do some side by side runs with
If both the dyno showed lower, and I was losing to the 2007's in some rolling runs, I'd be raising a stink at BMWUSA!!

I had my '08 for a few months, it was a Sept built car.
It was never taken to the dealer yet, however I can tell you that this car def feels like a 13.5sec 1/4 mile car. My V8 S4 is a little slower. So i don't think that all factory '08s were detuned.

Now as far as the the update being a detuner, that could be a possibility.

I posted this on the Dinan thread...

I just got off the phone with Dinan and they said that there will be an official Press Release on monday which will give us more details. However, there is an important detail:

BMW made some changes to the 2008 ECU and they will not be able to provide local software upgrade.

This means that owners of 2008 vehicles will have to have the ECU shipped to them and they will return within 24 hours.

K

I wonder what other changes BMW made to the 2008 ECU?????

What the f, that is not a minor change.

That is a major ECU change if it doesn't allow what Dinan does with just about all the other BMW cars. Yet you can still piggyback with other units...

sucks...

We'll see in the release I guess.

First thing I thought of as well. Good thing I'm getting on a dyno in 2 weeks.

If anyone in the So Cal area is interested in a dyno day I can set one up here in San Diego. I would need a minimum of 10 cars and it would be $50 for two pulls with AFR. If this interests anyone let me know and I will set it up. Lets get all of the 2008 and 2007 guys for dyno comparisons as well as all of the Procede, Juice Box, Turbo Tuners, and maybe by then Dinan tunes and see what kind of power they make.

FWIW, I drove a bone stock 08' coupe at the dealership a few weeks ago, and it did not feel slow by any means. The engine felt very torqy and the acceleration felt quick compared to my current car.

As an attorney, this seems highly unlikely. They would be subjecting themselves to ridiculous outcry from people purchasing 2008s or people getting a service and having their power detuned. This is similar but not exactly the same as if you purchased a house, but found out it was on a lot smaller than what was represented to you.

BMW is smarter than that.

Imagine how many lawsuits would arise, and how many cars they'd have to buy back if they were no longer making the advertised power

I do not think BMW detuned the car. They changed the max hp from rpm 6000 to 5300 just like my earlier post. The max power did not drop, but just reach earlier.

I think its a possibility. They have always advertised 300hp, and if 2007's were really making 330hp, and they detuned 2008's down to the advertised 300hp, there shouldn't be a problem.

The 2007 buyers just got a bigger house than advertised, but the 2008 buyers got what was advertised.
