I did it without pulling the intake, but it was not easy. I got an oem kit directly from a supplier. As I recall it was around $125 for the complete kit.

I do not understand why people buy such important parts from Amazon or eBay.

I was told by everyone to get the eBay kit because it was perfectly fine and that it would crap out after 80k again but I might get a nice one.

Plus my e92 has a 100 buck valve cover from eBay and burns no oil at all and has been great for 18k miles so far

Thanks! I love them, unique. Under $200 out the door is a good deal. What color are you going with?

You likely have a vacuum leak. It's probably the big bellows from the throttle body to the airbox / maf. If you run INPA on your laptop it'll give the mileage for those codes, as it is you've no idea how old they are. I'd check for the vacuum leak then reset all the codes and drive it a bit, see what pops up.

E46s are epic, one of the best BMWs made. Give it a new set of spark plugs and a new air filter. M52tu is pretty bullet proof if looked after. I had one in an E36 touring and it used almost no oil between services, tons of power.

I haven't taken that boot out but I'm going to check it now. I've cleared the codes a couple times so can't see when they happened. If the pcv indeed is and I got recommended this job to bypass the pcv by people in another forum which I think sounds good:

https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...me-CCV-system-(Pic-Heavy)

Car started fine but then as it settled and warmed up it got the rough idle again, goes away as soon as you rev it a bit so makes sense it's probably indeed a vacuum leak. These are the codes that came back

I'm just doing the typical red. I'd like to do somthing a little more unique but with having the Coral Red leather, I feel like any other color would just look out of place.

Remove the intake boot, crack may be underneath. The CCV is a pain so don't do it unless you have to. O2 sensor codes are very common if that boot is cracked. Try to get INPA and a USB / OBDII cable for your laptop.

Lmao I still haven't gotten around to getting a laptop but the car is in the garage luckily.

I took out the intake boot and it doesn't seem to have any cracks but it looks like it's stressed in some parts. I have inpa but for some reason after I updated it it now shows everything in German and doesn't give me actual codes

I chased this problem for days, checking boots, vaccum lines, swapping o2 sensors and so on. Finally did the CCV and bingo, all good. Not saying it is 100% for sure, but you already changed one CCV line because it was toast.

That's kind of where I'm at the boot looks great and I would have to rig up a whole thing for the smoke test. Now back and forth between spending on a nice brand oe ccv kit, the amazon chinesium one or this pcv mod the guys on the other forum have done

https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...me-CCV-system-(Pic-Heavy)

Guess I need to hold myself for wanting to get this running good as soon as I can lol

I chased lean codes on my E46 and ended up replacing the intake boots, vacuum hoses on both left and right side of the engine including the plug on the backside connected to the SAP. How old is your fuel pump and filter? BTW, E46fanatics is great, it was my introduction to BMW's.

Idk how long I'm going to have the car as mine since I kind of bought it to be a first car for my brother eventually which is a shame because it means he'll ruin a nice e46 like every 16 year old so that's why I didn't join the forum yet. I did however go on bimmerfest.

I can't condemn the intake boot yet. Pump and filter I have no idea how old they are but the car runs fine sometimes so I wouldn't think it's bad. Where is the fuel filter located? I imagine in the tank.

I've decided I'm going to give a try at making my own pcv system that isn't made of plastic garbage. I wanted to do this on my e92 but I needed the car on the road ASAP when the cover failed and I found one for super cheap so.

Seen a version of this done but I'm going to throw my twist on it.
Yellow: breather hose
Blue: replaceable pcv valve
Red: T and elbow brass fittings
Green: pcv Air distribution manifold

Going to connect the valve cover outlet to a hose to the back of this pcv I just got from Autozone and then I'm going to hook it to a smaller 3/8 hose to connect to the first entrance of the pcv distribution manifold with a T fitting, then it continues down to the 2nd entrance of the pcv manifold to an elbow to ensure equal pcv air enters both sides and even amount in all cylinders. I can also if I want to, add a catch can between the pcv and the first T fitting as I will essentially get rid of the oil separator the car has stock. We'll see how this goes and if it fixes the issue, I want something that will last and is easy to replace if it fails.

300, personally I thought it was a good buy. Fitment is 8.5/10. I need to make new air ducts for the oil cooler and brakes. That's probably the most annoying part.
