Just turned over 50k miles (50034) on the odometer, not bad for a 2011. At some point I'll replace the halogen bulbs in the angel eyes and fix the curb rash on the 187s (plus new SSRs). I'd like to add a set of 32s, 127s, or 193s but not at their current asking prices ($800/set).

New rear shocks

I finally got around to replacing the rear shocks a couple of days ago. Replaced the front struts a few years ago, and planned to do the rears shortly after. There's no time like the present...

Everything was straight forward, except maybe for the trim pieces in the trunk. Only broke one clip though, so that's a success.

After twelve years of hard work:

In place, but not seated properly at the bottom. I ended up putting the wheels back on and backing the car up on ramps before tightening which did the trick.

Always good to give the new shocks a proper break-in.

"Hard work" Right ??!!

We Americans need as many pics as you can send of our cars doing the work that they were designed for. When I read posts on this forum about people being afraid to drive their cars out of state for fear of breaking them...and then see you pulling a frickin' Bobcat. Totally excellent.

Took my car in for the recalls and got a G series 330i. These 3 series cars are WAY too big now. Felt like an older 5 series. The piped in fake engine sounds were very gimicky too.

Glad to hop back into my car after.

I like my e92 a lot but after driving the e46 I thought it was pretty wild how an older 3 series felt similar to my 1 series a generation later which is contemporary to the e92 3er. Can't imagine how massive a G series must be

My retrimmed steering wheel arrived today, so I got straight out to fit it. Well happy with the result too. OEM look but way better fit and finish.

I've not used my E30 much this year, it's become a bit of a garage queen due to Covid and the fact I'm driving less. But it's just the perfect size. E46 felt a bit big and my E91 feels like the E34s I've owned size wise. Don't like the current crop of BMWs. Business partner had a 4 series hire car, seemed huge.

No, although I did look at their work and although they're good, this guy's work is the next step up. I came across him in the ClioSport forum, and he did my 182 steering wheel for me, so when I made the switch to BMW, I naturally went straight to him again. He goes by the name of "Snappy" on the Clio forums.

I came across some interesting info while screwing around on real oem:

I know its known that the x-drive rear swaybar is 15mm compared to the rwd's 13mm. And the fronts arn't compatible.

But the sedan/coupe x-drive front bar is a different part number than the wagons(even though its the same diameter). The wagon front sway is the same part # as the X1 w/ M-sport suspension whereas the sedan/coupe is the same as the X1 without sport suspension.

My guess is that the diameter it tapers to in the center is shorter or non-existent; or possibly a thicker wall(Like M-sport to M3). Could be a nice junkyard bonus for you x-drive guys

sedan/coupe/x1 non-sport: 31356793639
wagon/x1 M-sport/euro rough road/euro police: 31356790142

Thats interesting I wonder how big the difference is if it's even worth swapping them. Hard to find sport x1s around here being parted out. I need a steering rack from one of them as it's the same as the xdrive E9x.

I'm sure its not a game changer like a big aftermarket bar; and I'm not sure Id buy it new either. I have seen 2 wagons at pic n pull yard around here so that would be a good way to pick one up.

I'm sure it makes a bit of a difference, otherwise they wouldn't have done it. The x1 non sport rear is the 13mm and the x1 M-sport rear is 15mm so I'm betting they kept the balance similar. For the e90 sport front to m3: both are 26.5mm dia but the sport has a reduced section in the middle(making the M3 6% stiffer) and for reference the e93 m3 bar is 28mm and 13% stiffer than sport.

Edit: Rwd cars have the same sort of thing. base sway bar is 26.5mm as well as the sport/M-sport; it just has a shorter reduced section in the center

Those presses are great to have. I have the 20 ton and love it. Not the most robust thing compared to seriously expensive ones, but the way I look at it is I'm not a professional shop who's using it constantly, so it should hold up just fine for occasional use.

I mainly want it to do wheel bearings on my cars and bushings for the suspension because well you can get the bushing by itself for single digit price tags on rock auto instead of replacing the whole thing

I used sonax leather cleaner with chemical guys leather brush and then condition with bmw uv protection kit. Just gotta make sure to go easy on the seats with the brush lol

I've played with this on a few BMWs over the years. Best result was my E36 328i touring. I put on an M3 Evo bar and it totally got rid of the understeer, superb upgrade.

My current E91 has 132k and original non-sport suspension. Despite that it handles far better than I thought it would. I say that as someone who lives in the Highlands of Scotland, the original home of the wee twisty road. I think this is in large part due to improved suspension geometry. A BMW mechanic friend reckons the E9x subframes are way stiffer and that helps.

For that reason I think anti-roll bar and shock upgrades have less effect on the E9x than on older BMWs. Anti roll bar stiffness varies with the 4th power of the diameter (d^4), so going from a wimpy 12 (20,736) to a 15 (50,625) is big news, but nothing compared to a 22mm (234,256) bar from older cars. (Those numbers overlook the different length of the "lever" portion of the arm on other models)

LCI Tail Lights

My OEM Pre-LCI tail lights were making my E92 look a little dated, and this past month had to replace the inner tail light and this past week the left side went out. My M3 buddy hooked me up with his DEPO LCI Tail lights and I'm in love. People always say the LCI tail lights are a massive difference and I didn't really see or care for it until I put them on. They for sure modernize the car look and it was a really easy install just plug and play. I also got the Euro spec and I really like it because it stays red and only amber when I turn which makes them unique to the North American versions.
