first SES light i've had in forever.

#6 coil seems to have decided not to be a team player anymore, so I swapped in the good used spare from when I replaced them all 60K miles ago.

as you can see, I haven't had this engine cover off in some time.

Got a bad missfire yesterday, turned out to be #1 coil New Bosch coil only £19 which I'd say was a bargain. Funnily enough I just serviced the 318i N46 I got for a friend and one of it's coils looks to be recently replaced.

Manual X5 3.0d for sale locally. A wee bit tempted. If I bought that I could sell my E91 and RAV4, one less car is tempting (also have a Z4 and E30). Not sure I want something THAT big though.....

fixed my V2 Accessport. Cobb is no longer supporting these so my option was to buy a new Accessport for $650 or.... The screen had gone out but the unit still connected to the accessport manager. I gambled on a $16 replacement OLED and scored! Super easy: 4 screws then one ribbon cable with a brown clamp. to open the clamp use your fingernail to slide away from the base. take out the old oled, slide the new ribbon in, and push the clamp back in. Literally 5 min.

This is the part:

sadly it did not fix my warm/closed loop idle miss.

happens like clockwork every 4.5 seconds. I think the cyl 6 misfire is the computer mis diagnosing some sort of emissions control valve or seomthing causing a vacuum leak.

fine when cold.
fine when not at idle.
fine before the temperature was lower than 50.

at least the engine bay got a cleaning today.

Might be worth hooking a smoke machine up to the intake plumbing. I got shock when I found out how expensive one was.

Here's a cheap way to make your own smoke machine. I haven't tried it myself but it looks pretty simple.

Replaced all the brake lines (hard and soft) on my truck, the hard lines may as well have been made of paper they were so corroded.

Put in new wheel cylinders in the rear drums and new calipers, rotors and pads up front.

Now they won't bleed, so tomorrow I'll cycle the abs pump, and hope that allows me to bleed them.

Had to remove all o2 sensors then unbolt the exhaust up to the metal V brace under the car and a lot of prying and twisting. Once you get the bank 2 out the other comes out with ease

That's genius simple. Never smoked, might get odd looks at the store asking which cigars make the most smoke :-)

Very jealous. We have a little snow on the high tops in the Cairngorms but likely won't see anything skiable until January, December if we're lucky. Nice to be able to see some snow out my window again though.

Winter tires on a bit early..
It's been 3-5C in the mornings and rainy the past couple weeks so it's not a total loss. Ride is much comfier but wet traction is awful compared to summers, especially if it warms up a bit during the day. Definitely ready for some white stuff to brighten up driving in the pitch black too.

Had to add oil for the second time in the past two months...

Hoping it's from the ever worsening VCG leak and slightly weeping OPG. Need to track down if the occasional odd response and odd running is from the valvetronic actuator or the ESS. Even though it's more expensive, kind of hoping it's the ESS so I can just get it over with when the valve cover is off.
