Nice, E90 threw a Adaptive headlight error during the crazy rain today. Hoping its just the module or the thing on the control arm...

What does whole water pump replacement cost to do if you DIY?

$1,100 is a deal from a dealership. I paid about that at my indie. I called two dealerships and the lowest quote for water pump and thermostat was $1,950.

That could be annoying why would that happen if the unit is sealed 100%.

The cost of DIY last time I did it was $354 for pump tstat and bolts.

All I can think is somehow it didn't fully seal back up correctly when I changed the angel eyes last week? I thought I got everything back correct but maybe not sealed 100%? That and the E90 drove through 2+ ft of water yesterday. The wife said at one point she thought is was almost to the middle of the door which is close to the bottom of the headlights...

So last night I started the car and the idle revs kept fluctuating from 800 to 1100 for a couple minutes before settling back down to 600. The change in rpm was audible. I'll have to check for codes this weekend, but I was plugged in not long ago and all was clean.

Any idea what that could be? I don't think it's HPFP, fairly certain it's not injectors (going to pick up some Techron anyway). It's a new issue, most recent service was the turbo fiasco. Can intake valve carbon buildup cause this? Planning on getting it blasted in the next few weeks.

Tossing around the thought of selling the 335. Anyone know anyone looking for a modified 335? Or what do you guys think I should ask for it? 08 335xi, 80k miles, BMS DCI, VRSF charge pipe, downpipes, 7" intercooler, tuned to 389whp/409wtq by BrenTuning with V2 Cobb AP, Alpina trans flash, sports package. DGM with brown interior. Thoughts?

Every now and then I browse cars.com for fun, and I stumbled across this today. One owner, clean CarFax, maintained 335i coupe for $9,000. Only caveat is the miles...

Honestly no idea, how many miles? FWIW Over a year ago I bought my stock 335xi e90 nav, manual, etc. 80k miles, for a bit over 15k with two new tires, new front brakes, oil change, trip to the BMW dealership for a once over and battery cable recall. So IDK maybe 18k depending on the miles and options?

If you arn't in a rush throw it on craigslist high and just wait. That is what I did with my maxima. Took 3 months but I got only $300 off my asking price in cash. But I had another car so I didn't care. It just sat washed and waxed in the garage until it was sold.

What are you thinking about for your next car? You could always trade it in and get a subi

It has 76k on it right now. I have my gf driving it to keep the mileage down. I put it on craigslist for 19,800. Id be pretty content with around 18k though the way it sits. It has the premium and sports packages too.

I am planning on another subaru though. Looking at a new limited wrx. My work offered me fucking 12k for my car and I laughed in their face. Lol

12k sounds about right they will resell it for 16-17k and get beaten down to only make like 3k on it. This is what my dealership did all the time. However if you were buying a new or even used car from them they should have hidden some of the margin in the newer car in trade in price they offered you so you wouldn't hate the trade in price and feel like they are ripping you off...At least that is what I would have done.

Is it just that the Subaru is that much more fun to drive? I can't imagine it can compare in power capability or luxury vs. the 3 series N54.

Its more because a subaru will be easier to maintain. But the new wrx is probably the best subaru has come out with. New motor, badass handling. Sweet car.

And they didnt do shit for me on the car I was going to buy. I can get it cheaper from another dealer. They dont really care about the employees here at all.

Planning on finally tuning soon - are Burger's claims about the JB4 true? If I literally do nothing else other than have my carbon cleaned and install a JB4 in my otherwise stock car, I'll be making over 400hp at the crank on 93 octane?

My Buddy Matt mcPhee just quit from there.

Specs or link to new motor? I figured it was the same one with the weak ringlands or whatever I keep hearing about.

Yes. You really want to do the JB4 backend flash and buy the JB4 piggyback to have the best of both worlds. The flash is free, just need to borrow someone's cable that has vins left or buy your own.

regarding the flash tune vs. just JB4: "For pump gas it basically allows them to program in boost curves that are a lot fatter down low as there is no longer a fuel trim limitation at lower RPM. It's also easier to reshape the advance curve on the flash side than using CPS which they never felt comfortable doing more than 4-5 degrees with. The VANOS changes, speed limiter delete, and some other tuning tricks also make it a worthwhile way to spend an hour or two loading."

DO IT!!! It's seriously night and day. Then downpipes and and IC and you should be around 400whp.

The plan is to buy one right after the carbon cleaning.

The thing that scares me though is that most of the users seem to be a lot more knowledgeable on the N54 and cars in general than I am. I can tell you the basics of an internal combustion engine, how turbos work, etc. But if you started asking me about timing, proper air/fuel ratios, etc., I'm not gonna be able to answer.

I went through the JB4 documentation (which is lacking, at best), and there doesn't seem to be anything about what to do after the physical install. As far as I can gather, the process is clear DME/TCU/throttle adaptations with INPA, physical install of JB4, set JB4 to map 5, configure JB4 gauge setting to 335i, then drive the car aggressively for a while with wide open throttle whenever possible to help map 5 learn? Then cross my fingers and hope that after a week or so the car is actually making the ~345whp that Burger claims?

It looks like people then do a lot of manual tweaking as well, but that's where my lack of knowledge comes in - that type of thing isn't something I know how to do.

As for downpipes and an intercooler, we'll see! I'm hoping the speed bug won't bite me too bad and I'll be satisfied with just the tune! Otherwise I'm looking at a future of explaining to the girlfriend while my wallet is several grand lighter and I'm spending most of my time driving around looking for E85...

Even with cheaper parts, installation is what kills me. I'm considering doing fresh spark plugs if when I get the tune, and that'll be the most ambitious engine work I'll have ever done, haha! I'd have to go to my indie to get an intercooler installed, and while they're great guys, they're $110 an hour.

Not cheap, inexpensive I would Def do plugs right before the jb install and or flash. Not a bad idea to keep a spare coil ready too. Plugs are quick just follow the Cobb video. I'm more than happy to watch/guide if you are worried about doing them, just swing by. 30m tops. You should do all your own mods. Paying 110/h is insane. You can probably find someone who will do it for you on the forums for less or a mechanic who wants a side job.

Either way just get a tune asap. It's a completely different car.
