Havent given it much thought, honestly, other than tire size: 235/40/18 all around is ideal. yes thinner wont look as "rad" but will cut through snow nicely. Also lean more towards Dunlop M3 than Blizzack. as for wheels. they are nothign more than a vehicle for the rubber in my mind. Aesthetics on winter set-ups are far less imoprtant. translation: cheap rimz!

Since the TPM sensors changed in 2010, I cant really buy just any used set-up - unless I plan on replacing the sensors too, which is also a hassle.

Does anyone in the Twin Cities need a set of the Michelin Pilot Sports that came on the '06-'08 335 w/ Sport Package? Precisely 225/40s for the front and 255/35s for the rear. They are the run-flat models. One of the rears has a sidewall defect so it's probably trash unless you want to waste the rubber on the track.

I just ordered all-season tires for the winter and I'll get a new set of wheels and tires in the spring. I just hate to throw these away because they've only been used in the summer so they have less than 12k miles on them. The car is AWD so no burn outs. One front tire is basically brand new because it was replaced after hitting a pot hole.

I'll probably swap these out sometime in September. I know it's a little early but my wife's car needed new tires also so I just ordered both sets at the same time. Hers are on back order so it may be a couple of weeks before these are available.

Send me a PM if interested. I can supply pics once I take them.

18's? If so, that's the same size my OEM ZHP wheels use and one of the front tires has a bad puncture that can't be repaired.

I have the Dunlop M3s on my winter wheels. I only have dry road experience with them as my car was in storage most of the winter, but I know others who have run them as DDs and they speak very highly of the snowy weather performance.

I'll have to disagree with you on the aesthetics of winter wheels though! Given they are on the car for so long up here, I couldn't live with small ugly aftermarket wheels. I found a set of OEM M Sport rims out in Cali that had only a couple hundred miles on them (basically new) for $600.

Edit: I will have to get new TPMS sensors unfortunately. Like you mentioned, they changed the frequency in 2010, so the older ones I had for my 2008 won't work anymore

Yes sir, I'm going to be there. I managed to install the pbx today and it took longer than I thought. I haven't noticed any change yet, but I'll wait a couple days until the ecu figures out what is going on.

I use 18" Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's, daily driven all winter and they are amazing.

I had Winter Sport M3s (now 3Ds) on my old 330xi and they were awesome, but it was a AWD car.

I've got Blizzaks on my M3 and they work pretty well in most winter conditions, other than uphill starts on snow. I think Tire Rack is running a deal on them right now too.

I have Blizzaks on my 161s and love them. There have been many times the tires (maybe the awd too) have gotten me out of tough situations.

Here are pics. The front left tire is the newest - you can still see the factory injection stubs.

Here's the website you can use to check if a certain plate is available for the taking. I was talking to Brian about this, so if you are interested in a personalized plate, use this!

https://dutchelm.dps.state.mn.us/dvs...0/mvregtax.asp

Just type in the plate in the box. If it shows the last time the registration was paid, the plate is taken. If it says "no records found" then the plate is available.

Morning Gents,

I am looking at replacing my O.E. RFT tires and was hoping to get some local input. I am potentially looking at going with non-RFTs and am curious if any of you have experience using the BMW or Continental mobility kits? I am looking to either mount these on my OE 161s and was just curious if the tradeoff between piece-of-mind and comfort is worth it. I spent last night pouring through the forums and thought it might be best to ask some local people!

Another option I am fielding is replacing the entire set up with 162s or 189s. Thanks for the TXT on the 162s Gary. Sorry for the delayed response, by phone saved my reply as a draft rather than sending it immediately.

Anyway thanks in advance

Brad

If you decide to dump the RFTs, I would recommend picking up the E60 spare tire set that Tischer have. Personally, I wouldn't want to rely on the mobility kit. The big negative of course is the large amount of trunk space you lose.

When I was contemplating some new wheels for my old E92, I was looking at the Conti Extreme Contact DW. I am not a fan of budget tires, but at the same time find it hard to justify high performance tires like the Michelin PS2s for everyday daily driving. This Conti has many positive reviews and seems to be a good all round summer tire. They also make a DWS all season version.

So I am planning to go for a nice long drive over the holiday weekend. Perhaps continuing south along the WI side of the Mississippi where some of us went after the spring meet. I hear Hwy 35 gets even twistier the further south you go. Anybody interested in joining? Sat, Sun or Mon are all pretty much open for me.

Back to IRL-MN's comment, I put Conti Extreme Contact DWS on my car and have been very happy with them. With and xi, I couldn't justify 2 set's of tires so I went with the all seasons. And for summer performance they are great, not much road noise, handle well, and they haven't seemed to wear that much either.

So for a cheaper tire, they seem to be pretty good.
