Replaced the glovebox damper that was slightly seized and wouldn't dropdown.
I thought it was a straight forward job but realized that the release clip was on the inside and inaccessible and had to drop the entire glovebox.

I was intimated by doing that but it's actually fairly easy; just time-consuming.

I did that on my E46, Z4 and E36s, good bang for the buck upgrade. Noticeable difference especially if the old bushes were worn.

So I bought an MP3 / Bluetooth / USB music player that mimics the CD changer from Ebay. 3 months and 3 days later it dies, outside ebay claim period. Advert said 12 month warranty, so I filed a paypal case and got my £130 back today :-) Seller initially communicated then went silent.

As the unit was dead and had no kind of warranty I opened it. One bent pin inside, easy fix. Delighted it's fixed but feeling a bit guilty about getting it free now (daft of me). Might give part of the refund to charity to assuage my conscience.

I did that 20 years ago with my 635, you could eat your dinner off the engine.

Then a woman half asleep 50 yards from her front door pulled out in front of it one morning and wrecked it. Told me the insurance money would let me buy a modern car! Having put so much work into the the car and then having it taken from me like that was soul destroying, never done it to the same level since. Had converted the car to a manual not long before, gutted.

I have a new garage this year after a lifetime of jackstands in the dirt. I'm finally living the dream of doing a meticulous disassembly and cleaning of every part that's going back on the car, and replacement of everything else that looks remotely worn. This car needs it, too. I wanted to find something original that nobody modded up, but I wasn't expecting it to be original right down to the 206k mile shocks. I know Bilsteins last pretty well, but pretty sure that's pushing it. Ditto every other suspension part.

My wife will just find something less interesting to do, she leaves me alone when I have the polishers and grinders and power tools out. I wrecked a deer after 10 months in the only new car I've bought in 20 years ('15 Mazda 6 w/ 6spd manual.) I just went back to old stuff, driving an 08 Accord now and working on Bimmers.

I get this feeling... I spent probably 50-100 hours loading up my 6MT e91 with adaptive cruise, heated steering, a 2017 M4's NBT Evo full nav (which meant swapping the whole dash from my non-nav car), added logic 7 sound, oil pan and valve cover and filter housing gaskets, 3 stage intake, etc etc...
Then someone fell asleep on the two lane road I take to work and crossed over.
Swerved enough to avoid a 1/8th overlap head on collision, but his car still side swiped hard enough to total it.

New one has the heated steering wheel, but that's it, and it's an automatic. Rest of the parts are waiting for me to have time, but... motivation is just gone.

my "temporary" heater hose repair for the CCV system was now oil soaked and starting to collapse under vacuum.
I knew it would, but it's all I could get the sunday I needed it.

2 feet of 3/4" abrasion resistant hydraulic return line was $6 at the local implement place.
Fixed forever.

I hear you. My E91 still has excessive oil consumption but before I get into it I need to remove and replace two snapped bolts on the valve cover. It's winter so my '99 RAV4 3 door is on the road now and I'm driving that all the time (love that car, passed MoT with no issues last week). Very tempted to switch to the plastic valve cover with the built in oil separator valve. Car is under a car port so is dry, but it's no fun working on a car outside in the cold. E30 in the garage, Z4 under a car cover.

Decided to be an ass and *safely* weave in traffic today. Didn't get very far, everyone goes the same speed in each lane. Fun nonetheless

Man, next time I need to fix something I’ll just set the part on the engine and call it good, too.

:-)

Fixed the iDrive centre button (again). This time I tried soldering the four connection points on the optical switch. Let's hope it stays fixed this time.

To be honest I'd rather ditch iDrive totally. I'm the guy who still uses a Nokia 3110 rather than a smart phone. I wanted a car without iDrive but this one was too good a deal to refuse. One of the things that puts me off newer BMWs is all the tech, I just don't want it. The nav doesn't work anyway because the DVD drive is dead (OK for CDs) so I only use iDrive to control my music.

I like the idrive it makes the car seem more modern than it is specially if you've got the cic. Just wish it was easier to input addresses on the nav
