What is the SIB that supercedes SI B11 09 07 ?
Quote:
I just purchased a CPO 2007 328i and they performed SI B11 09 07 (replaced all exhaust HVA elements, valve cover gasket, cam bolt) and wondering whether they should also perform this SIB which seems to indicates that the cylinder head should also be replaced. I'd like to get more information on this SIB to know for sure. Related question, where do you go get all the SIB information? Another related question, I found out from the dealer that my car has the N52 engine. How do you determine/validate this? |

All very interesting. 5800 miles and I may be going down the same path. Intermittent valve tick.

Ticking Issues on my 06 330i
I'm having the exact same issue and played the mp3 file posted on this thread and it sounds dead on. I didn't even notice it until I read this thread. I said something to my SA (also referenced the service bulletin) and he said that he noticed it when I brought it in last week for something else. He said that he's going to take a look. I'm taking it in on Monday.
So is the fix for this head replacement or HVA exhaust lifters replacement or both? |

What will be the consequence of unfixed ticking issue? I want to get mine fixed as well, but I don't want to have to fight with the service advisor about it. Any one have a good approach?

The best way to get this resolved, especially if you can't reproduce the noise at the dealer is a video with sound. This did it for me, since a long drive on the freeway will typically cause the noise to temporarily disappear. As far as doing nothing, I doubt there are any short term consequences, but the jury is still out on long term issues. I have said it before, BMW has replaced a lot of heads to resolve just a slight noise issue.

I've got 22K miles. I didn't drive the car for a few days except to pull it in and out of garage to detail it. When I started it the next day, the click was there loud and clear, even with the windows and sunroof closed. There's nothing subtle about it. I took it for a short drive but it didn't go away. I took a video and let it sit for a while. When I restarted it, the noise was gone. My SA was terrific. I've got an appointment to get the exhaust valve lifters replaced. Many thanks to everyone for their posts. Soon after I heard the noise, I came to e90post.com and found this thread. The 60+ pages of posts, service bulletin and videos helped me understand what's going on. Last edited by driverman; 03-19-2010 at 09:51 AM.. |

Hey guys this is my first post on this forum but i been fallowing this for a while. i had the ticking on my BMW too which i bought from a private dealer @ 43000 miles. At 45000 the ticking came on.. i took it to BMW and they changed the lifters but the ticking came on after two weeks but i was still driving it hoping that it will go away but no luck. so @49700 miles i took it back to BMW and they just changed the head yesterday. So lets hope that the cylinder head solves the problem because i am almost out of warranty.

I don't know, but I hear a ticking noise when my car idles, but once I depress the clutch the noise is gone and I have a 335.

Any other 335i having the metallic ticking issue.
It does not make any sense. Why depressing the clutch will make the ticking disappear? Ofcourse, if the RPM goes up if you depress the clutch that might be an answer. |

I know it doesn't make sense, but that's what is going on. I will probably stop by the dealer to see if they can shed more light on the problem.

So, I went to a used car lot today..... I've got some interesting stuff to discuss.
Well, I went the this lot initially to look at this one 2007 e92 328i with 65k miles on it. When the dealer let me start it, cold, I noticed a steady ticking sound in the engine. So, I was a bit sketchy knowing that engines are not "supposed" to tick. So I let it sit at idle for about 15 mins or so, and never stopped ticking. So, I looked around a bit more and noticed another 2008 e92 328i with 46k miles on it. I started that one and it ticked as well, however the ticks on the higher mileage 2007 were slightly louder. They also had one more 2007 e92 328i with 42k miles on it. It didn't tick at all. It just has your average engine purr sound with no "odd" ticking. So, 3 of the same cars & engines, two ticked, one wasn't. So I said to myself, something is wrong here let me go home and research a bit before I dive into one of these "ticking time bombs". So I joined e90post and searched the word "ticking" and found this thread. So I'm posting my experiences from earlier today so someone could hopefully enlighten me on this ticking situation. Because to some people it seems to be a "normal thing" and some people say "go fix it right away". So I still couldn't find a straight answer even after reading the first 20 pages of this thread. Thank you. -Jordan, from South Florida. |

I got a 335i and it ticks. The dealer told me the service bulletin was not for my engine and they would not repair because according to them it is a usual noise that comes from the engine. Please advise they are so full of shit

I took my o7 335i to the dealer for long cranks/half check engine light as well as the dreaded wastegate rattle. Now they call me a day later telling me they changes the software to fix the crank/engine light issue, but they can't replicate the rattling sound.
Come on, the rattle is soo clearly audible it's bulshit thati have to go back down there and argue with them. What's the most recent bulletin for the HPFP and what does it say to do? I want to show it to them because I think they either 1) changed the pump and are not telling me because it will be the 4th pump replaced on my 20k mile car 2) they reall. Did just reprogram it Regardless I need to have them replace the pump so if someone could direct me to the most recent bulletin that would be great A4rings is offline Reply With Quote |
