3.0-liter, turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, 300 hp Generating 300 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque at 1400-1500 rpms, this advanced inline six is our first turbocharged engine offered in the U.S. in decades. And it"s the result of a simple idea - to use two small turbochargers instead of one large one. By combining twin turbochargers with BMW"s direct fuel injection system and advanced piezo injector technology, we achieved the benefits of turbocharging without the drawbacks, namely poor fuel efficiency and turbo lag. In fact, we eliminated turbo lag altogether. The engine"s innovative design includes an all-aluminum engine block with cast iron sleeves for durability, and a direct fuel injection system that also cools the engine. A cooler engine allows for a higher compression ratio (10.2:1 vs. 6:1 and 7:1 in other turbos), which translates into superior emission control, greater fuel efficiency and, most importantly, a thrilling performance.

(my bolding)

What month was yours built?
4/08

I sent that blurb from the website to my SA and he didn't do a thing... not even acknowledge it.

I have an 05/08 model and the lag is more frustrated as time passes and more driving time. You cant get good standstill starts without brake boost with the lag.

When i first got the car since the car was a faster car than my prior car i didnt really complain about it but as time goes, its so depressing car isnt performing what it is capable of just becuase of some "fixed" lag issue.

I hope soon this issue will be fixed. Seeing this thread come up everyday reminds me of the car's weakness and pisses me off sometimes.

My car has an 07/2008 build date and I don't really have a baseline to compare my "lag" to. With that being said, I do notice that there is a hesitation when I gas it from a stop. Hopefully, more owners who get the new V31 will share their experiences and see if the lag really subsides!

More observations

A few more observations after the initial shock has passed:

the Power seems to be devided into two gear categories.

a)
1st, 2nd & 3rd have max power from 1800 rpm.
I have done so many tests now and the result does not vary.

b)
4th, 5th & 6th have max power from 1500 rpm.
Again, same result over and over again.

As for launching your 335i from start I can tell you that It's absolutely fantastic! As soon as you let the cluth go the power just keeps comming, It does'nt jump and then go into sleeper mode for a couple of seconds, and not once did my car bog down as it used to do.

Once again I am King of the stop lights!

Hi Pavel,

A big thank you for me too for your taking the time to post. I only have 350 miles on my new UK car (with v30.0.2), I'll get my car updated in a few weeks...somehow.

How many tanks of fuel have you used since you got your car back?

With oil dropping to around $90 per barrel you've got the timing nearly right! I nearly because it'll take about 6 weeks for prices to drop. Have fun!

Wheelspin

Today I tried to see if I could narrow it down to where i get my wheels to spin
(yes, they can actually spin now), and here is the result.

From standstill:

1st gear is really strong and my yellow dashbord light is flashing like crazy.
2nd gear, same as first. Again the yellow light keeps flashing.

Mind you, this is on dry asphalt and the loss in traction is between 1500 - 2500 revs
with all the traction nannys on.

I went on to try something I could only do with a pre 29.2:

Dry asphalt, 2nd gear doing 19mph(30kph) - Floor it. Before = slow reaction. Now wheelspin.
Again, same conditions as above.

I'm having a hard time adapting to my "new" car. I'm so used to lag that I'm actually planning my driving with lag, when stepping on the gas and getting the reaction I now have it throws you of guard and you almost hit other cars.

The 29.2 software must have been one of the most idiotic things BMW ever invented. I now have to re-adapt to driving my 335i but that is a luxury problem.

Let me know If you want me to do any other tests for you..

/Pavel

Wow cant wait to get it. I have talked to Service folks and i have let them know that i have some "window" problem (opening by itself sporadically ;-)) and a huge turbo lag under 3000. they noted everything and i also requested them to update my software with newest V31. they actually replied that they will do that if there is something wrong with the car.. will see . I am not going away from BMW until i see the technician plugging the cable and do the update . I am italian so i will stand there and complain till they do :-) i can be quite annoying hehe

I just left a message for my SA. The dealership is only about 100 yards from my office and often they are able to get me in for service within a day or two. Hopefully, they have the software and will schedule me for this week.

Or, he will tell me the new software includes an update for the cigarette lighter module ONLY and they will refuse to update me...we shall see.

I heard it's only for the 3x blinker function. It now blinks the indicator three times, 0.6 seconds apart, rather than the former 0.55 seconds apart.

Pavel, great to hear about your latest test. I am jealous and excited that you can actually get your car to react when flooring it under 2000 rpm, since, as you know...when we do that with 29.2 the car sort of sits there, laughs, yawns, then crawls off.

On another note my dealer is IGNORING my emails to them, asking if they have V31 for me to come in to get. I'll give them through today to acknowledge them, otherwise I'm calling tomorrow morning. My brakes are squeaking yet again, surprise surprise, for the third (and two dealer visits), so they'll need to go ahead and get my car in for that again anyway.

It's true about the blinker function. In fact, performance and blinker function are the only two noticable changes. Why is yr dealer only confirming one of these two??

I'm lost...why did they change the blinker rate? And do they expect us to believe the only reason they went to a v31 was to increase the blinker delay?? Theres got to be more to it than that...

Lord and baby Jesus man. Sarcasm...sarcasm.

Next thing you know, people will be calling up their SA's complaining that their blinkers are slow.

I had in mind the fun Pavel was having! I suspect he's doing a lot more WOT with v31. I realise v29.2 is poorer economy. Now I need to find a fault (other than lag) so I get the update.

Do you have a fax modem? Save this entire thread, page by page, and send it to their fax machine, with a cover page that says in big font, "I would like to receive v31, today." If no results, then send it again the next day with an additional message that says, "Just making sure you got this." And the next day, and the next day, until they get the picture.

Now I see it...damn the interweb and its lack of inflection!

I still want hear this:

"Come on down and get v31. We've changed the blink rate! Oh and something about lag.... "

I was just wondering. Is is safe to assume that if a car is being built right now it will automatically have V31 because it is the latest software available? I ordered an 09 335i xdrive coupe which is currently awaiting to enter production. Really hoping the car doesn't have lag..

I dunno man. I mean, Pavel is scheduled for Thursday and he's NJ. Also I think there is someone scheduled to get it in California. My dealer is doing a fantabutacular job of ignoring me, so I don't know if they have it yet.

I will say that I think you are correct in assuming the U.S. dealers wouldn't have it until two weeks from now, according to the official release schedule...but...if these guys are saying their dealers have it...well...
