and scott, auto helmets are designed for one impact alone...once you get your head wacked pretty bad, they are no good after that. Motorcycle helmets are meant to take multiple impacts from all angles, multiple times.

Now you are probably thinking ' a motorcycle helmet sounds safer..' to a point.

In a bike fire, you can throw it down or roll off of it to safety....they are not fire resistant or retardant. In a car, that helmet would not save your head if you got into a rollover and the fuel lines broke and caught fire or something...car helmets have fire retardant linings to save you from burns...because in a car you cant just 'get out' or 'throw it down'...you might get stuck in the flames for 20-30 seconds maybe.

used, maybe off of ebay...the earliest I think you can use is a Snell2000 helmet..I dont even know if those are allowed anymore cuse they are so old.

Snell2005 and up helmets are around...check ebay. You might beable to find one used. Take the liner out and wash it or replace it, and you got yourself a good helmet!

Make sure it wasnt dropped or anything..even just dropping the helmet from your hand to the ground renders it useless..
