You could brush on some more resin to seal it back up after cutting.

So.. I've always wondered what exactly is E85? I've heard of it a while back and the term still come around every so often. All I know is that it's a ethanol blend but in terms of performance and compatibility with our premium unleaded what is it? Is it somewhat the same as methanol/fuel mix?

E85 has a significantly higher octane than gasoline sold at the pump. It's generally rated around 105 octane. This allows your tuner to tune aggressively in regards to timing and boost. For example when tuning boost on a 91 map, one would usually need to dial back the timing to compensate for knock. With E85, one can tune aggressively for boost and maintain the same timing level, or even increase them more. It is realistic to have no knock at boost levels exceeding 30psi coupled with an efficient turbo and still maintain high timing values. The alcohol in E85 has a HUGE cooling property associated with it as well. E85 has similar cooling properties you find with Water Meth injection. A cooler charge = a denser charge. A denser charge = more Air/Fuel. More Air/Fuel = more power.

Cliffs: Cheaper then 87, fuel power gain (50hp-90hp), and safer for high horsepower motors. Will pass smog with flying colors even if catless.

Bad: You will see a decrease in MPG. Not too many stations in the bay area still. 4 stations in San Jose and 1 up here on the peninsula, none up north till Oakland/Berkley area. So if you go far you must carry jugs or have an alternate 91 map that you can switch back to when you have an almost empty gas tank. Propel the E85 provider in CA is going to open 100 new stations though soon so it'll be more widely available. I used to average 21mpg combined now i do 17mpg. I have a heavy foot though.

I use it to offset my timing corrections, 20% on a full tank.

I used a similar method before i was tuned 100% on E85. Most regular pump gas uses 10% ethanol to bring their octane rating up anyways. Notice the sticker on gas pumps .

Also on a side note norcal gets the same blend of E85 all year. Other states in the winter will get blends like E70.

I've seen that on the east coast, I aleady assume shell and chevron 91 is 10%. But I don't recall a sticker. Nice, 100% did you do any investigation with your components? How many miles?

Not sure about the chevrons e85 but all of the local Propel stations have been tested year round by many people and constantly hits e85 rating through the e85 testers and people that run a Zeitronix ECA in their car.

based upon what I have learned on e90post, know one really knows for sure. the pump says maximum 85% ethanol, and min. 70%. Pump gas can have 10%. This is where custom tune comes in handy to create a map specifically to your blend.

During the winter months, they reduce the amount of ethanol, so I have heard. Thats why it reads may contain a min. of 70%

I was told to watch my STFTs and LTFTs not to go over 34% when using E85. The N54 DME allows for 34% more fuel to the original amount, go over that you will be running lean. LTFT is for idle and cruze, STFT is for WOT.

for noobs like myself, this post was helpful.

I appreciate the input as well.

Just out of curiosity, can/should you run e85 on a n52?
