The exhaust flap delete alone...how much does it typically cost? How much effect does it have/can it be dampened or muted for courtesy's sake? How easy is it to have done/how long does it take? What could potentially go wrong?

A guy on the X3 F25 forum, Alpineweiss, had the exhaust flap delete done to his new X3 35i. He didn't give much info...

Oh, I understand. And if we didn't have someone just admit to not understanding the whole modding thing I would have let it go as it is known to us. But, James' statement made it seem as there were no performance gains from an exhaust (which I know was not what he intended), and I just wanted to clarify for the newer guy in case he was not aware.

I for one, chose HKS because it gave the most performance gain. The fact that it looks and sounds great is gravy.

It's free on the 335...just need to know which connector to unplug. Would be surprised if it's any more involved than that in the newer chassis. If you don't like it, you just plug it back in.

Oh yea, i am not saying dont get an exhaust, just dont get it for performance only reasons.

And remember, certain tunes can modify ur exhaust note, so play with that if you want.

Yea, no dash light, but throws a code. If you plug it back in and it's cleared it won't come back. I've never heard of a dealer giving a shit about it FWIW, and even a few of them show their customers how to do it

LOL the dorks are the ones who do know it...basically when they read your ECU it stores codes...many of them are to help diagnose a potential problem but there are also codes that infer tunes have been added, or emissions systems (catalytic converters) have been bypassed.

Basically, a BMW tech, or anything with a code reading tool can plug into your OBD port and there will be a code that literally means "exhaust valve actuator un plugged" ... that's about it. I've never seen it affect anyone's warranty, though BMWNA's official stance on it is that it exists to build heat in the cats. Even Though they offer the BMW Performance Exhaust, which doesn't have the valve. Are you sure you have it? You're a single side exit, are you not? I tried to find alpineweiss' post regarding him bypassing it, but couldn't see it

Are there any dangers technically/I don't really know where to look for that kind of a plug. I'm really just an asshole for not knowing this stuff.
