Trying to put this in perspective. NOT saying this is correct... just read dozens of pages and trying to test my understanding:
*JB4* knocks a few times each time one goes WOT to determine correct timing. (I say "knock" but I mean "hears the knock/pre-knock/whatever means timing needs to be backed off. Same below when I say "knock") Does not store a new timing table. Can reduce boost under autotuning to avoid knock and does store that setting. But probably tries to increase boost from time to time until it knocks again, but this reduces the frequency of knock. So, JB4 will see some minimal amount of knock on each WOT unless autotuning is being used. *Procede* knocks when you go WOT to determine autotuning timing settings. Does store a new table to avoid knock on subsequent pulls. Probably tries to advance settings from time to time until it knocks again, but this reduces the frequency of knock. So, Procede will see knock only occasionally when autotuning is looking for correct settings. ???or does it store the tables based on the first pull and never look at advancing timing again??? *COBB* the factory makes a timing table based on their car, which is a conservative table, to avoid knock. COBB AP also increases timing to look for knock the first WOT or so and then rewrites the table. ???was I even close there??? Again, just trying to sum it up and I'm sure I got stuff wrong above so please correct me. |

JB knocks because the car will want to hit stock timing
procede, offsets timing prior to wot, if the car knocks or coniditions change, the timing is further offset Cobb, changes the timing table all together, if it is too aggressive and knocks, it works like a jb, however the timing targe is already alot lower then the jb/stock timing curve. |

The JB3 hasnt been out all of those years though. And if the 335i is your definition of race car, fine. If you want to use JB that is also fine.

A JB variant for the most part has been available. True, I've run a JBx for the majority of the time...but have tried most everything. Although, I have not run the v5 yet, need to get on that.

If you consider the Terry tuner a tune then yes, JB has been out pretty much all 4 years.

Search "Terry335" and see what you find. You'll see someone getting a lot of info from Shiv et al on what's needed to create a radio-shack resistor setup for 2 dollars. So if that TerryTooner is something considered a "JB Variant", then I guess you've lost sight of what a Tune is.
