That gen iPod is known for having a really nice DAC, so coupled with good, lossless source material, you get really nice sound. Also, keep in mind that MP3 CDs will be lower quality than lossless digital files on an iPod - the source material, not the medium matters.

Anyway, to keep this on topic, I finished retrofitting the FLA mirror (round sensor). Works exceptionally well! I’ll be listing my old mirror in the classifieds if anyone wants it.
LOL most people think CDs are antiquated--the commercially produced ones. But you're spot on.

I never even knew there was this "limited edition stuff....I got some of the $28 and next thing you know $130 on eBay (if unopened).

There was this bright kid at work like 4 years ago, I go, "Austin, have you ever had a CD?" He goes, well, I've never actually held one in my hand, if that's what you mean, but c'mon I do know what they are. My parents have a huge collection. OUCH!

Actually I do use CDs in the BMW, and the Lexus has a 6-cd changer....wife's car FM radio.

We cut that XM tie (2011 through mid 2020)--I was getting XM Select for $4/mo. after taxes, so I would say it's only $48/year wth with taxes and fees. After COVID I cut 2 cars and never looked back!

I remember copying my CD's into iTunes and then loading them onto the cars hard drive. I don't think I've put a CD in the actual player whether it's at home or a car in more than a decade. It's like the pay phone in the convenience store parking lot, they fall in disrepair and only the shell remains.

Really? It's very common in my experience. Shops got tired of cheap, crappy, poor-fitting customer-supplied parts that then broke and the customer blamed the shop. If you have a really good relationship with the shop/mechanic, you might be able to talk them into using your parts if they are OEM but they will not warranty the parts or the work.

I work in a dealership as an advisor and we allow customers to bring parts but cannot guarantee they will fix the car or from breaking. A lot of shops don't because parts from outside cut into there profits

My indy is fine with my buying things off fcp and having them put it in.

Do a couple drifts and slide the rear around before you replace it.

Lot of shops are OK with ppl bringing OEM or at least decent parts with no warranty from them, but don't want ppl bringing their ebay knockoffs that are obvious crap that they know will fail and they'll have to explain again about the no warranty part and have a unhappy customer.

I remember taping the college punk station on the radio and dubbing the good ones onto cassette and having a glove compartment full of them. Before that I think they used to have to hire a band to ride in the back seat if they wanted tunes.

I replaced the sport steering wheel on my 330i with another sport steering wheel from a 2011 donor car. My 330 steering wheel was a bit grubby and some of the leather coating was wearing away on the left side. The new one looks and feels brand new. Took me 10 minutes start to finish, including properly torquing the bolt.

Not too long ago I wrapped my peeling steering wheel trim with vinyl. I can't believe I removed that trim last time without first removing the airbag. The airbag literally takes seconds to remove.

Photo of the old steering wheel with the wrapped trim - the worn leather on the left side is hard to see. It doesn't look bad, I just didn't like the feel of it.

What college punk station? Was this in NJ?

Your wheel looks nice. I covered mine a few weeks ago, it was the same not bad but not good enough for the place you touch.
The punk station was WKDU, I think it was Drexell.

I didn't re-wrap the steering wheel, just the plastic trim piece. That photo is the old steering wheel with the wrapped trim piece. I had looked into getting the wheel professionally re-wreapped but found someone on this forum selling his 2011 sport steering wheel and it was much less than getting mine wrapped. I just transferred my airbag and buttons over to the new steering wheel.

By the way, did that shifter come on your car? I really want the M-sport shift knob now. I got the ZHP knob because it's much better than what came on my car but I never liked it as much as the M-sport knob. Problem is I haven't seen authentic M-sport knobs for under $200, and the ZHP knob was $75.

I'm wondering now why your 06 sport wheel has the thumb bulges and mine doesn't. What is different about your car? That shift knob came with the car put on by the PO, along with a shorty knob that he didn't like. The original was a OE style.

Quite a lot.

Did the post track day inspection... It was quite a hard day on the car so I felt it was necessary. It started as a warm track at 9am, and by around 6pm with the sun setting, it began to rain. So in the morning I set some really clean laps, and by the night (we did two or so hours after sunset) it was a screwing around drift session- it's a small track outside of Birmingham and was a private event, so essentially open track all day to do whatever. The car is surprisingly fast, especially for being the only sedan there, it really held its own. The back tires that I intended to finish off are most definitely...finished off. The right rear is officially a slick. Definitely getting the PSS on it soon. It's impressive how balanced the handling is on these cars, and how easily they'll step out, even with 260hp and an open diff. Debating getting an oil cooler because it kept hitting 265ish, which is my personal limit for engine oil temps.

No damage that I can see, other than the absolutely obliterated bump stops that were mostly that way beforehand. Dreading taking the front struts apart.

Also got the alarm retrofit kit installed, since it's not made anymore I had to piece it together but it seems to be all good now. Coding VO and CAS things scared the everliving shit out of me but nothing is broken so thank God.

Also got the euro intake installed, with a K&N filter. Currently running no lid, because especially during the winter and with the ram air scoop pointing straight into the box, IATs are just fine. The noise is absolutely incredible. E46 CSL vibes. It has an odd silent zone around 3500 that definitely sounds like something is being cancelled out- it really does make me wonder what frequency the helmholtz resonator in the intake pipe is tuned to. It's also pretty neat how you can hear the 3IM hitting its peaks and valleys with resonance as the engine climbs through the rev range. Definitely going to replace the pipe at some point.

Changed my oil change interval to 5000 miles.

I used this DIY below using tools 32

I entered

oel; 31; 10, where

10 is my car's number you; need to enter your car's number in that spot.

Worked perfectly

Anndddd we have another storm on its way coming tonight. It's supposed to drop 8 inches+ tonight and Sunday night.

The car started to tweak yesterday. Here's the link to that if you want to chime in
