Parked my E90 in a indoor lot, for the next two days. . 12-24 inches of snow is expected in my city. Its well worth the $6.00.

We just had 10 inches here in Chicago. Heard there's more snow on the way Thursday.

Snow was fun, when I was younger. Played tackle football, snow ball fights, etc. Now, I can’t stand it.

Same, I dont really like snow. Cars get dirty, roads crack, etc. It's just a PIA.

Valve cover/valvetronic gasket on my brothers 328 + MILV install.

I'm surprised how easy the MILVs were and how much of a giant pain in the ass getting the valve cover out of the bay is

Did you use the special tool they have for the job?

Just the standard bmw torx/etorx stuff. It took me a bit longer on the first one for the milvs(just being extra careful) but the rest were super super easy.

Mark the bolts holding on the spring so you can count rotations. Rotate the intake cam so its 2/3 O'clock. Loosen the spring bolt 5 turns(exactly)slide in washer and tighten 3 turns. Just blade screwdriver and pry(lightly but enough force) the shims out. Lube and slide new shims in. Lift each side spring with the screw drive(through the coiled spring) and slide shim in. Then back off spring bolt 3 turns, remove and tighten 5 turns.

Rotate crank and onto next. Shim install was maybe 30 mins max after the valve cover was out and being careful

It's too bad they don't make a version in SS.

Took her up to Lake Placid last weekend to go snowboarding for a few days.

Handled everything perfectly - snow filled mountain roads, -15 degree temperatures, 700+ miles driven, no issues whatsoever.

I complain about the xDrive quite a bit since I wanted the suspension and driving characteristics of the RWD version but man did this thing impress me over the weekend. Nothing could stop this thing as we easily plowed through 6"+ of snow each day.

LOL @ 23, I've owned vehicles longer than you've been around I should be the one doing the forgetting around here.
Ha Ha Ha! I had an '88 GMC Sierra that was 24 yo and had a little over 400k kms on it when I finally got rid of it. It was kind of a remarkable age for a vehicle that spent it's whole life in NS and was used all year 'round. It apparently developed stage 4 cancer in the last winter of its life. It went in to the winter looking great but by the time spring rolled around it had rusted through every single body panel, especially the floor, and the gas tank mounts. It even lost the rear frame cross member and the rear bumper fell off on one side. At the end I had ratchet straps holding the gas tank and bumper on. There was no hope for it to ever pass the provincial safety inspection for road worthiness without investing WAY more than the truck was worth.

I'd say we're pretty close. I had a '74 Olds Omega (the posh Nova ) with the Rocket 350. That was a great car in a straight line but don't try to corner with any kind of enthusiasm or you'd find yourself off checking the rhubarb.
I bought that car from a school teacher that drove it all winter and stored it all summer while she traveled. I bought it for $2500 with 27k miles, drove it for two years and sold it for $2250 with 116k miles and no tires. The old man worked at Michelin Tire and got a set of "test tires" every year. He would always get two or three years out of a set so I had a set of them on my car when I sold it. The test tires had to be returned to Michelin so I had to remove them before the guy picked the car up. I figure that I drove that car for two years and 90k miles for the cost of gas, oil and a few minor repairs, valve seals being the worst.

In the 90's I owned a '70 Pontiac LeMans Sport with a 250 I-6. I "pretended" it was a GTO. And no lie, girls let me pretend! They liked it.

It was given to me for free and I drove it everywhere, I mean road trips. Go to my first NYS safety inspection.

Me: "Oh, I have 4 wheel drums on this thing?"

No, it didn't pass.

DIY to come once I get it all written up.
Did this. Still had to remove the whole unit - but the DSC went bad. Bought one off eBay, coded it, used ISTA to recalibrate it. Life's good. Heard these units new are 2k from BMW
I know E9X cars use a expensive ABS system that spec e46 and e30 race cars use em.

I've wanted to get my hands on an N52 engine to play with for quite a while already and today I pulled the trigger, only thing is it came with a pre lci e90 and a 6 speed automatic attached to it!

Which means I'm now in part out mode with this car, if anyone needs any modules or anything from it feel free to let me know lol

I have 2008 e90 that has been in WI/IL all it’s life. I don’t have any rusted fasteners like you do. Even the bracket for the vacuum cylinders isn’t rusted. N54 guys know what I’m referring too. Mostly depends on how the vehicle is taken care off. I wash mine myself. Never carwash. I make sure I was the underbody and the wheel wells too and drive it after. Only little rust on some of the weds on the rear subframe and the brake lines but those are aftermarket.

Why'd you change all the bolts? I mean, they do look pretty rusty tho.
My barrels were nasty, so nasty that I figured they couldn't get any worse. I hit them with Iron remover and bug and tar remover, both took some crud off but not a lot. I ended up scrubbing them with a green scouring pad and brake cleaner, it didn't hurt them any and got a lot but not all of the crud off.

That *is* why I changed them, they are all rusty and I can't stand it. It's prelim work like this that makes all subsequent work more enjoyable, it's all clean and rust free and comes apart without impact tools and cutting wheels and implements of destruction with no grit falling in your face while you work.

It from PA and NJ, lots of salt everywhere any time there's a hint of snowfall. It was disgusting underneath everything was corroded or rusted. It looks better than it did the day it rolled off the assembly line now

Thx, the low res pics don't show each one has some degree of curb rash and the barrels were beyond totally cleaning, but they came a long way with a little elbow grease. I put new caps on them and coated with Magic Guard and Maguiars Endurance gel on the rubber. They're now kinda beat looking but very shiny. I'm gonna try my hand at refinishing them one of these days.
Looks brand new

Stick it in a alpine white e36 sedan and get the harness that connects it to the stock wheel with paddle shifters.

If I didn't plan on using this for an engine build that would have been a great plan, many very cheap e36s around here which could greatly benefit from something like an N52. I'm gonna pull it hopefully next weekend.

I would really like to be able to run the engine before I tear it down, the DME is there and wiring and such but there's no key. Might make a thread dedicated to maybe trying that out if it's doable. I suppose there might be a way to just short my way into making the car think a key is in there but again this isn't a 90s Honda either

Wouldn't a 3IM N52 in an e36 outperform the actual e36M3? (EDIT: USA spec of course)

I think it would. That would be really neat.

It would and also be lighter, but good luck with the wiring and engine management.
