Hey guys! Thanks for your great support and to those who donated yesterday :-) and especially to DWR for promoting TestO ! I'll release a public version later today. Thanks.
rjahl : not all of the Ediabas data types are currently supported in the logger. Last addition was "BINARY" which essentially is a byte array. I can implement other types of course if needed. EDIT: available now at usual place: http://phenoboy.kapsi.fi/testo EDIT2: if it is not clear to everyone it's also possible to view and log parameters from i.e. DDE and TCU simultaneously. There's no limit regarding that. Last edited by pheno; 09-24-2016 at 04:15 PM.. |

Yes, for over half a year now. Forgot to update personal info here Would like to do a moderate remap but as the ecu is edc17 I've heard can't be reliably done from OBD port which I prefer at this moment.

There is some irony in the situation. We can remap the TCU, but are having difficulty getting a damos/A2L. Can't break into the DDE, but can study the A2L. |

EDC17 can be port flashed just fine, but you'll pay about $3-4k in tools. The tool mimics a factory update that unlocks port flashing protocol. Once you've done the "factory update", then you flash the tune.

So why do the tuners crack open the case for remaps? I guess you have to crack open a lot of DDEs to get to $4K worth of billable time. On the other hand, the bench flashing setup isn't cheap either. Hmmm...

The port flashing edc 17 tools have only been out for a few months at most. So all those that dropped $3k on tools to bench flash ~2 years ago don't want to spend the money again. I can totally understand haha.

one final note, as far as I know, they only have solutions for VAG edc17 and newer edc17cp4x for the Fxx cars, not sure if they have unlocked the edc17cp09 for Exx. This is how a lot of companies have come out with OBDII flashing for the Fxx cars with the MEDV17.x.x DMEs, but you still need to open them up apply the TPROT Patch and then you can flash over the port. trust me, I've been pushing for an OBDII patch for the edc17cp09. We sell a lot of tunes for the n52 guys and it makes life easier & cheaper for both us and the end-user when all I have to do is ship out a handheld and we can email tune files.

As has happened several times, we have breakthroughs and then hit the next challenge. Getting the shift points and TCC control is relatively easy compared to shift speed and feel. Very hard to narrow that down, and that is where ruining a transmission is a very real possibility. So, right now we are trying to get our hands on a Damos. Plenty of folks willing to sell junk and we are not immune to false promises.
October 3rd, a meeting will be held in Germany to discuss how best to proceed. One of the topics will no doubt be software documentation. Hopefully, we get another breakthrough. Thus far folks have put their own investments into this, but I believe outside financial support might also be a discussion topic. |

The gathering
Last Monday dave205t, RayBan81 and I met at Robert's Automatik-Getriebe-Frankfurt GmbH, Germany. Robert is not only a super friendly host, but also let us in on some 30 years of experience in repairing automatic transmissions. Thank you very much for the invitation, the knowledge and the awesome dinner!
By the way, I was the only German there and apart from having met Robert once before, no one in this group has ever met before. It is this thread that has brought us all together. After looking at some taken apart transmissions and torque converters and learning that the friction surface of the clutch packs is actually made from paper!, we sat together over a beer and exchanged thoughts on how to proceed. The central point was that Dave has spend many hours of his time and also spend some money to rent computing power and doesn't want to just give that away. Especially, not to someone who potentially would take that knowledge and make money with it. We all understood and agreed. The idea of creating a donation fund was discussed and dismissed in favor of RayBan81 's offer to create a web shop for Dave's tool and reimburse Dave for his time. The target price for the flash tool was set to be less than $100. The tool will be able to be used stand alone and not be tied to any hardware and can be used with a standard OBD-to-USB cable. RayBan81 will also offer to prepare custom calibration packs for those who don't want to shuffle 0's and 1's themselves for around $50. However, sharing experiences with modifications will be encouraged and will continue in this thread. Members will be able to share their tuned cals through the free tool TunerPro/XDF. |

That's awesome that this project has brought people together. Great work to all involved. I can't wait to have one and to get the D's transmission into a more spirited shape. Thank you and keep us posted on when it is that this can be purchased.
