Yea I'm a bit confused about the key part. In the past, the license was included in the readme's but now we need to send license to someone? Who do we send it to?

Newer version above ISTA+ 4.32 require license to activate. Look in cartechnology forums and your will see where you can request for license.
You can use ISTA+ 4.32.1x and below without license

I've just downloaded ISTA + 4.32.20 (the last version before it was locked) file from the source mentioned on this thread.

I have some questions for clarification:

1) Am I correct to assume this version is suitable for both F and G series, using ECOM cable? Also, would this particular version happen to work on E-series with K-DCAN cable (not important - just asking)?

2) Is there any install instructions at hand as it would help me a lot. I did install ISTA + recently from another source but could not get it working so don't want to do anything wrong again.

3) What is the score with the license key? I read on this thread that we have to send a message to someone for the license key? Is that true or does the file contain the license key already?

4) I have a working copy of INPA, NCSExpert etc - However, this download also includes BMW Standard tools...Can I simply delete this folder as I already have these installed?

1. Yes, this can work for both ICOM and K-DCAN cable(the cable interfaces must be configured beforehand to work)
2 you just click on the installer and it should do the rest. no extra setups if you want to install ISTA+
3.For version above 4.32.1 you require license. lower version no license. Read third post
4. You can install ISTA+ separately without BMW standard toolS.

Many many thanks for the clarifications. That's good to know the installer will install the software. I will attempt to install it today hopefully. I will be installing without the BMW Standard tools.

ISTA is not Free software. It's BMW Dealer software, that is not even supposed to be in the public domain, and it has been hacked to work offline / standalone, and it requires a license. In the past, ISTA was being packaged with a generic universal license, but now packagers have changed it to be a PC HWID specific license, so every machine now requires its own unique license. And you are not sending key to Car technology forum itself, rather you are sending it to the ISTA packager who can only be contacted via that forum. And if it costs only 30 Euro indirectly to get licensed ISTA, its a bargain in my opinion.
