Looks awesome! I've been hunting for 166 in silver! I have a set in satin black. Hoping to find someone to trade with before I give in and just refinish my set, lol.

I have extended leather in my M3 and always thought it looked how all e90s should. I have a lot of leather dye experience, and found out the same dye used for leather is actually what’s used on plastic and vinyl interior pieces in BMWs, just with extra hardener. So I did it myself while I was retrofitting navigation into the car!

I can imagine the beige and grey half tone dashes are paint coloured vinyl
But if someone ordered red-brown extended leather it would actually be leather right? |

Top notch work. I was wondering how everything looked so pristine after 400xxxkm. Do you have a build thread? |

Thanks! The rest of the interior is actually original. Just taken care of. I use products from colourlock. It’s the same coating BMW uses. They will premix the dye for you in whatever colour you need. Their hardener is called crosslinker. They have some pretty extensive videos on YouTube or their site with instruction. You’ll also need an HVLP gun to spray with. Never use brush on products, they’ll never last. But the process is basically, sand, clean, primer, colour, sand, colour, sand, clear coat. Don’t ever listen to the people that say this doesn’t last. It’s utter non sense. It will last as long or longer than factory. I’ve never had a single failure, and my cars get used. No build thread since the car wasn’t much of a build haha. And yeah no point looking for 3 series extended leather because it doesn’t exist. I redye my steering wheels and shift knobs every couple years to keep them looking new though: Last edited by doogee; 08-24-2024 at 01:55 PM.. |

Thanks for the rapid and detailed reply! I’ll look into colourlock. Unfortunately I’m dealing with a few scuffs in the leather from the PO and maybe a few I’ve put in after two cross country moves and countless bike trips in the car.

Wow your steering wheel before and after is amazing.
Did you use colourlock leather fresh? Or the professional multi step process of sanding etc |
