I'm excited to give your tutorial a try. I have coded a couple of my BMWs in the past, but it's been so long that I don't remember how to set everything up. Seriously though, I don't think this file is ever going to download from Mega. it's been hours and it looks like it's gonna take at least a day longer. Is this normal? Holy shit I hate Mega right now.

It shouldn't take long to download the software if you're using Chrome. The DATENs on the other hand can take a little bit.

Yes, follow the Install Instructions, it is the latest, greatest, and up to date. The setup instructions in the Guide to BMW Coding are out dated.

What Windows version do you suggest using? I know in your first post it says Windows XP running through Windows 10, but then the pictures you have in the tutorials don't look like Window XP.

Any OS from Win XP up to Win10 will work.

Tried with 3 bmw's no luck. The light on the cable shuts off right away as soon as the command is sent. Anybody with recommendation for a INPA cable? What drivers for the cable are you using?

In Europe try one of these.

I don't know why I'm struggling so bad with this. I've coded two of my other BMWs in the past, but they were each about 3 years apart so I have forgotten how to get it to work. The last couple times I followed the "BMW Coding Success" thread and managed to set it up but this time I figured I'd give this DIY a try since it's newer. For the record, I know my cable works because I've used it twice before. In the tutorial, it says to run INPA and let the EDIABAS server run after closing INPA, but when I close INPA, by default the EDIABAS server shuts down. I can't seem to figure out how to keep it running. Any ideas?

For me, the EDIABAS server also closes after closing INPA, but I was still able to code something today. The EDIABAS server relaunches shortly after detecting the VIN.

Yes. If it's the same one it's a K+DCAN, works on older and newer models. Make sure you've installed the driver or that Windows installs it for you. Check your COM Port and latency and make sure they're correct and that the car is in the on position when you connect.

Since this method is an updated approach to the "BMW Coding Success" DIY, could it be that my cable is out dated or something? I have used it in the past to code an 2005 e46, 2006 e90, and 2007 e90. I've had the cable for around 5 years now. I'm now trying to code a 2009 e92. I can't remember where I bought the cable from, but it's blue and says Bmwcables-co-uk on it. My laptop seems to recognize it fine, and the red light turns on and stays on when I plug it into my e92.

Am I right in assuming that I'm supposed to skip parts I-IV in the "Guide to BMW Coding" pdf? The first part seems like an older setup of what is accomplished in the "BMW Standard Tools 2.12 Install Instructions" pdf. Assuming that's the case, I start at Coding Part I: Reading. The first snag I run into is that there isn't a “Revtor’s NCS Expert Profile”. I just chose "Expert Mode". When I try to get it to read my VIN, I get an error message like this. I also just noticed that NCS Expert throws the same error whether or not the cable is plugged into the car and it shows that the battery and ignition are on. Does this mean my cable went bad?

Right -- the "BMW Standard Tools 2.12 Install Instructions" pdf should have covered parts I-IV of "Guide to BMW Coding" pdf. With this setup, there isn't a "Revtor's NCS Expert Profile". "Expert Mode" should work fine.

If your device drivers installed correctly, I would verify that your COM port for your cable (device name "USB Serial Port (COM ...)" is set to COM1. If not, you need to either set it to COM1 or modify EDIABAS\Bin\obd.ini . Also, I would double check that the Latency Timer is set to 1.

I just double checked my setting and tried to update the drivers for my cable and it said I had the most up to date drivers. COM port is set to COM1 and latency is set to 1. Can I assume I have a bad cable? Last time I used it was close to 2 years ago, but it never gave me any problems. The cable was called FT232R USB UART when I plugged it in, so Windows doesn't recognize it as K+DCAN, but I have used it on 3 other cars without any problems. It's a blue cable and the chip (or whatever it's called) on the inside is green. I took it apart and there isn't any corrosion or broken wiring. Any ideas?

Even if the Battery and Ignition "boxes" are black in INPA, the cable might not be working correctly because there are 3 signals - Battery, Ignition and Data and the Data signal needs to be working, and is the tricky one.

All the INPA downloads I found came with a program called D-Can.exe. See if you can find it. Run it. It first prompts for the port #, enter it. Then enter "1" to write the port number to the cable. Then enter "1" to select the cable type. If it returns "OK" I have found INPA, EDIBAS and NCSExpert to work 100% of the time. If it returns an error, there is no need to continue until you fix it.

I suspect you have a COM1 conflict. Does the laptop have an old-style Serial port? Those are nearly always hardwired to COM1. Try a different port number as is documented in many places. Remember to then modify the obd.ini file and make sure that the obd.ini file is in the "Path".

What version of Windows do you have?

Yes checked and checked. I tried with auto downloaded windows drivers(they are new) and others on this forum, same problem as dallas.daines has with connection error and ign and batt on even if not connected to the car. Images of cable. I have both types af USB old one and new ones on my PC same result. latency com all on 1.

Are you guys -- @dallas.daines, @SoZoX -- running ncsexpert using the desktop icon? If so that may run the installer's version of ncsexpert (c:/ncsexper) instead of the replaced version of ncsexpert (c:/ncsexpert or c:/ncsexper_64)

I'm starting to run out of ideas of what could of went wrong, but I don't want to blame the cable yet.

wildcatcrazy how often do the DATEN files get updated? I know you keep yours updated but I'm curious how often I should check back.

Also, I'm seriously considering just going back to stock. I've tried 7615835, 7601494, and 7603537 and they all have up and down sides. How would I go back to stock?

About once a quarter, but they have slowed a bit due to no new issues that require a new version.

Stock = 7601492
