Have you done any N55? I'm due for a service and may ask for this to be done, I just hit 100k
Never done an N55, not many of them on the forums. The N55 has an improved pcv system vs the N54 and shouldn't have this level of buildup. Not 100% sure if the intake port adapter is compatible with the N55 cylinder head or not.

Yeah the build up looks quite a lot for just 20k of driving. The port walls were reasonably free from buildup, just all accumulated on the valves.

Looking at doing this myself, the bavauto kit is $260 and I also don't have a shop vac. Anyone have experience with this kit?

In Australia, its much cheaper just to buy the stuff locally, not worth paying over $100 in shipping to get it here. I think with the availability of cheap tools at your Habour Freight it'd be cheaper to buy locally too. Only downside is the extra effort to assemble all the small bits and pieces.

I had a few stumbles at idle that seems to have gone away, although I'm running injector cleaner in the tank at the moment too. Haven't noticed a power increase like last time. Overall, much less of a difference, I'm just viewing it as cheap maintenance to keep my car running 100%

Did Socket 's car recently.

Buildup was reasonably low except for a couple cylinders, last walnut blast was done around 30k kms ago.

The first part of this video shows a time lapsed Walnut blast procedure on the car:

The results of the walnut blasting were excellent Socket. I didn't see in the video where the crank was rotated to close the valves for each intake port during the process. The reason I missed it could have been just due to the speed of the video. Maybe I could be wrong and when using the walnut blasting machine, the valves don't have to be closed. Great video showing a lot of work in a small period of time.

The crank is rotated by unplugging the starter solenoid, and jumping the 12V supply cable to the solenoid pin with an alligator clip. This allows me to rotate the crank with the starter, which is a lot easier than using a large ratchet on the crank hub.

Thanks Vince for the explanation. I couldn't see how it was done from the video. When I cleaned my ports using the manual method, I used the old ratchet on the end of the crank to turn the engine over.

Anyone know of a Brisbane-based walnut blaster? Car's at 106,000 and I don't think it's ever been done. If not I'll just build my own.

Sorry but may I ask if anyone could kindly list out all the little bits and pieces to build a walnut blasting toolset?
Just want to present the list to staff at Bunnings and get everything together as I am not familiar with the tools names.
With the walnut blasting process, does it suitable for a beginner DIYer?
I have only done basic oil change, spark plug and vacuum lines only so far.

Would be a great roadtrip for you!

At least you know you'll be in safe hands with getting the walnut blasting done by VTL and have him sort out any other issues
