Ok finally done! The N54 manual transmission swap is complete and running great. I have a second gear again! Guess I'll start a thread with what I did and what not to do. The only custom modifications needed are to enlarge two bolt holes on transmission and siamese two drive shafts together. Everything thing else is bolt on.

Aren't the driveshafts balanced? Did you have them balanced before reassembly, otherwise it will eventually blow itself apart. Maybe.

1 balanced shaft (n54) plus 1 balanced shaft (n52) (assuming they were already balanced from the factory) equals a balanced drive line, no?

lol. No did not have the drive shaft balanced. I should have it balanced but did not want to waste my time and money as I may be building a complete custom unit. Not gonna blow apart. You can feel a badly unbalanced driveshaft as soon as you start driving over 20mph. This one feels good so far up to 100mph.

Funnystory on the driveshaft... the front shaft is actually from a 93 Lexus GS300 2jzge. The N54 flex joint/guibo is larger than the N52 flex joint so my stock shaft would not bolt to it, and the N54 drives shaft is completely different and I didnt have one any way. I did have this lexus shaft laying around and it fit perfectly only problem is the center support bearing did not fit the body, so I ended up welding it to my stock center support and joint and it works.

I saw what you had welded,is it required to balance any shaft that's been altered?,other than ujoint replacement? Would a 335 shaft work if you had one? Its really great stuff the week you put into this, being the nn54and all. I'm looking to do the same to my n52,only because the fueling would be cheaper to maintain, and now we all know this motor is good to atleast 400. The more you did into this the more you find. From studies, it shows this motor is made to run in the higher rpm without issue in an form. If we can turbo this and try to maintain boost higher up,this may hold. I believe the n55 has the same internal components except the liners, both light weight. Has anyone confirmed a manifold option for the n52? Is it out of the question to be able to use the n55 turbo on the n52? Thanks guys

Posted some things in this thread already http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=665812&page=3, decided to just start a new one.

The turbo system consists of... GT35R single turbo, Custom turbo manifold, 80lb injectors, AEM FIC, Turbo Smart wastegate, 3" SS Downpipe to 4" exhaust, AEM wide band gauge, Turbo Smart boost controller. N54 oil filter stand and N54 oil cooler.

Body is converted to M3 panels, and widened the rear 5" wider than an M3, COR wheels 20x10 front 20x12 rear. Tein coilover suspension with electronic dampening controller (EDFC).

Low boost 9psi, mid boost 11psi, high boost 13psi.

Never dynoed, but figure in the 420hp range on mid boost. Drive with a couple of friends with M4's. Barely beat stock M4's and barely get beaten by JB4 equipped M4's. Running out of fuel on high boost due to stock fuel pump not keeping up, so don't use it at the moment.

Its my daily driver, been turbo for about a year now. Still holding together "knock on wood...Pray to god" lol.

I do have a broken second gear at the moment, and have gone through multiple clutches.

Next on the upgrades is
adding another fuel pump so I can run on high boost pressure.
N54 manual transmission upgrade and
N54 flywheel and clutch.

I started this project in 2007 (here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81727is the thread from back then) but was sidelined for years when I started having Kids. Here we are 9 years later, 4 kids later, two mini vans later lol

Will try to post updates of further progress as much as possible.

My YouTube video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDUUdmmo-D0. Have more on my YouTube Channel. Will Try to add more vids.

Can also see more pics on my personal instagram @jaysonpunancy and on my shop instagram @jamascoautorepair and on the shop Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Jamasco-Aut...35156/?fref=ts

I really do have a Mini Van and its hooked up too lol
Hey Jayson, so in your opinion, does it worth going through N52 FI or should just get a N54 and start modding from there?

N52 turbo

Lol,I saw it was a typo! Maybe I said to fast. I've been looking at a turbo solution on my n52 and this treat is very inspired and confirmed, I know of the manifold conversity on what works. I can put the money to a turbo kit,or build my n54 swap. Sorry for the confusion DigiDon; have you turned up the power,or are you holding at the 400 mark? Would you say that's a safe zone considering the liners? What do you think this motor is capable of? Thank you.

Id love to do this to my 525xi. But i think along with sourcing a N54 manual trans and all the components to convert from Auto to Manual, id need the N54 trasfercase. But at that point it just looks as if I should have gotten the 535 initially. lol.

Wow have not been on here in a minute!
Every thing has been doing good so far. New Transmission and engine have been holding up beautifully. Although I did shred my drive belt and something hit my turbo and broke one of the compressor blades. Sent my turbo out to be rebuilt with a new billet compressor wheel. Been running an EBAY GT35 non ball bearing turbo for last couple weeks, ebay turbo has been holding up so far. No dyno. Kinda late right now so will add more in the morning.

I should probably run a screen of some sorts to protect it somewhat, can't really fit a filter.
