Where is this flywheel pin location? Please tell me I don't have to take the cover off from below the tranny...
It was pretty obvious on the M3...probably because there was actually a flywheel. Last edited by DreiD; 06-10-2016 at 09:06 AM.. |

How did you get the pulley off then?
EDIT: Found it...used a hex key to lock. The hole is on the drivers side just above one of the main ribs connecting engine to tranny. EDIT: Added Pic Last edited by DreiD; 06-10-2016 at 11:18 AM.. |

All done. Pretty wicked failure for such an important part.
You guys were right about the intake. I was just afraid to treat it like that last night. |

Some notes: I took the damn air filter box out with the rest. Couldn't get the clips from the pipe on both sides off...spent way too much time on that alone. So the first step took me forever. Just go ahead and take the engine cover off...first thing, just do it. You'll have a much easier time getting the upper charge pipe off of the intake. If you have a new a/c belt just cut the old one. The removal tool is wonky...the install tool works a treat. The a/c belt is pretty thin and the tool doesn't seem to seat very well on that thin of a section. You can spot the flywheel lock hole (red arrow) from the top, but you can only reach from the bottom...at least for me. It is right up against the rib (green arrow) when you are feeling around. I thought I was crazy but I was right over it. Last edited by DreiD; 06-10-2016 at 12:34 PM.. |

Add me to the list...mine went out at 79,200 mi. I am the second owner of the car. A little history about the car, it was first sold in 9/2010 as a MY2011 and spend the first 5 years of its life in Arizona; so the AC was probably on all the time. The car now lives in Calif. The AC was on when it went out, and I should mention my 335d is all stock.
![]() This part was not available anywhere locally. I bought a Febi from ECS, and I also bought a second one as a spare. The spare is a Vaico. The Febi is now installed on the car and I didn't take any pictures of it. I will say it looks just like the one that someone else previously posted pictures of. ![]() Here is the Vaico that Im keeping as a spare: ![]() ![]() This job took me about 8 hours to complete on the first go around, I didn't have the belt tool, or the proper dampener bolt sockets. Now that I have done it once, and I now have the proper tools, I think I could do it now in under 4 hours. Regarding the fly wheel location... I wedged a small crow bar in the fly wheel teeth to hold the shaft in place, it was really easy and only took about 30 seconds. It is accessed by removing a rubber rectangular cover where a traditional bell housing should be at the back of the engine. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once I torqued it down to 40nm, I removed the pry bar so that the shaft would move while I put the belt on using the stretch belt tool. Hope this helps, I did take a lot of other pics in case anyone is interested. |

you are right!!!! BMfuckingW should be brought to the court for such a catastrophic failure part that can kill you without ability to steer!!!! mine went out on a parking lot and after i change that the steering feels a little jittery since then! i ordered from the internet some part, but at BMW service they told me they need to do some further modification, so it costed twice as much! i guess they made it up bitche$$, because i didn't buy their original part that was twice that expensive! we take these failures as they happen, but there should be a serious consequences at BMW to let them know they will not get away with it!!!!
