You're right... based on a couple of test drives over the past 24 hours, it DOESN'T do it in DS mode.

It's your transmission, that's why - specifically the Neutral Idle Control calibration. Your dealer can disable this to eliminate the problem, however your fuel consumption will increase quite a bit.

OK, thanks. That's the issue addressed by this TSB: http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B240308g.htm I'm going to have to return to the dealer with the TSB in hand and insist on the repair.

Took my 335i in twice for the "delay and jolt" when coming off the brake and trying to accelerate during engine warm-up phase. Both times dealership explained it away as "normal operation" trying to put it down to brake assist or rust on the rotors or higher engine revs during warm-up. Didn't take that for an answer the second time and found this thread. Pointed dealership to SI B24 03 08 even though they maintained they were unable to replicate the issue (they kept car for a couple of days). Eventually they agreed to perform the upgrade (be persistent!) and the problem has totally gone away.

Good to hear... I pick up my car from the dealer this afternoon. Hoping the upgrade fixes it!!

Just took my car in for service last week and to take care of this issue on my 08 335 Sedan. Brought in the TSB: SI B24 03 08 with me and of course my SA never heard of it so I had to leave my car there overnight so they could duplicate it. They were able to duplicate it (as I knew they would) and performed the SIB. So far the car is running 10X better all around and haven't had the problem since (6 days).

Went to the dealer in March, with a printout of the TSB.

They reflashed the car to ISTA 37.0.0.1.

Had to leave the car overnight, but the prob is gone. Finally!

I have a 2007 335i and I have sticky brakes. If i have Juicebox 3 installed, should i pull it out first before taking it to the dealer to upgrade the firmware?

Yes, do not leave the JB3 in there if you are going in for firmware upgrade. Chances are they will never know its there, but you just don't want to push it.

i was this brake problem , i ask my dealership couple time they said is normal so i have a tech that own his shop & i print out the sib to see could he do it before i gave him the sib he said was the brake switch

So I have lost count of the number of times that I have had the car into BMW dealerships for this @#%^@$# issue. Every single time when I picked up the car they claim it is fixed and every time it isn't. Do they even test it? It has now risen to BMW North America, although I don't have high hopes...

I am encouraged that it seems that at least the fix works for the non-x cars. Question I have is, has anyone with an xi succesfully gotten their cars fixed? If so, how? Do you know which service bulletin was used?

I took mine to the dealer and they told me that I should not waste my $$$ having them diagnose because its completely normal. I told the service advisor that I thought it was BS and he claimed to call his BMW master tech (I saw him pick up the phone) then comes back saying...."its really normal, trust me!" I still don't believe them but cannot find a real resolution to this problem.

I have a 2006 323i and I had the same problem.

I have the car jacked up and turned the front wheels and they both turn smoothly. My mechanic said it cannot be a brake problem then.

I then read this thread and perform a few tests. The problem, I am pretty sure, relates to the YAW control which means it also relates to the differential or the torque converter. Basically, the problem is the most obvious and consistent when I tested it on an uphill slope. Once the car thinks it is at an uphill slope, this feature will be enabled to prevent the car from rolling back. Note: The idling didn't change at all when I performed this test and so I don't think it has anything to do with the NIC. The car will sometimes still have this sticky problem on flat ground because it thought it is still uphill, hence it is a YAW control calibration (or accuracy) problem. Tried the same test on downhill slope, no problem at all.

I then perform the TCU reset and the problem almost completely went away. Note: At least it improves a lot and so the problem has a lot to do with the transmission. I didn't do anything to the brakes and the problem improved and that further convinced me that it is not a brake problem.

Now, my brakes do squeak a little but this problem will go away once the brakes are warmed up.

As a whole, I think if the dealer is willing to, and if they really did, upgrade your progman, you have a chance to get this problem fixed since by simply upgrading your software, they have practically reset your TCU.

However, if the dealer won't do it for some BS reason, reset it yourself and at least you will be less frustrated or embarrassed. I have a tight parking space too and I was having so much problem in moving back and forth by inches and now it is a lot better.

Have you observed any change in fuel economy after the dealer re-flashed it? If so, how much has it decreased?

SITUATION
The customer may complain of a delayed engagement and a harsh jolt when accelerating from a stop.

The situation occurs only during the engine warm-up phase (cold engine), and can not be reproduced in the Sport Mode.

CAUSE
EGS software (unfavorable NIC – Neutral Idle Control calibration)

SOLUTION
On a customer complaint basis only, check the vehicle's integration level.

If the integration level is:

* On E9x vehicles – E89X-07-06-520 or lower

* On E6x vehicles - E060-07-09-530 or lower

Reprogram and recode the complete vehicle with a current Progman version (target levels are E89X-07-09-518 or E060-08-03-510, respectively, for E9x and E6x vehicles).

Brake assist only works (or suppose to) when on an incline to prevent the car from rolling back when transitioning from brake to throttle. At least on AT, not sure about MT.
