Hass is correct, it's terribly difficult to crash the DME but it it's not that hard to place the DME into a mode that the Winfkp "comfort mode" can not fix. In those cases, you need Winfkp "Expert" mode and that gets just a little harder. It's easier now, but when It happened to me, Winfkp was only in German and there were no guides to fix the issue. |

(I say each time because I started the car too quick after the initial flash, so it didn't account for the adaptations properly [Throttle Valve P1632 and P1417 codes ... the installer installed the throttle body that came with my 3IM ... not my stock one]. I tried reflashing the tune ... ended up having to flash back to stock ... then flash the tune again. I did get a U0100 Lost Communication with ECM/PCM code each time I flashed the ECU. It was a bit difficult to clear the U0100 code after the tune flash ... it took a couple of tries, and a couple of restarts for it to clear. So far clear of lights ... no other codes yet. I've restarted the car a few times, and a 20 minute drive in traffic. One thing this whole ordeal tells me is to Invest in a Code Reader. I had to go to Autozone and Advanced Auto between the stock and tune reflashes. At least the folks at Autozone were cool enough to just hand me the reader so I could clear the codes myself ... Advanced Auto said they're not allowed to do that and wouldn't let me do it myself. One thing I found weird ... When I was running the BPC Tune, if the car was running while the code reader was reading, the car would shut itself off. It only worked if the car wasn't running, but with the dash on. That wasn't the issue when I was running stock tune, it read either way. I'm hoping that the U0100 code doesn't present itself again later in the future ... but from what I've read ... the code sometimes presents itself as more of a "generic" code when it's not really the ECM/PCM that's the issue. I will have to say ... Bob @ BPC is quite helpful ... thanks Bob!). In a few days .... I'll write up a full review and any issues with the 3IM install and BPC tune in a separate thread. The other option is to get a cable ($40) and install free software on your comp. Generic code readers are almost pointless for our cars as they can't read shadow codes or clear them. |

Can Carly read codes without the engine running, but with the dash on? The reason I ask is I had issues code reading with the engine running with the BPC tune flashed. The car shuts itself off within a 5 or so seconds of scanning. Has anyone had this happen when reading their BPC tuned n52. I'm wondering if it's because of my software version (car assembled in 07/07). |

Carly does NOT need engine running to scan for codes. It works just as fine. I used it in both situations. Never had an issue (knock on wood). |

How many of us from the list has installed their tune? I know I'm going to review it in another few days or so ... and I do believe there was 1 other person has ... I'm curious what others though about the tune ... especially people with Manual transmissions vs Automatic. |

I just ordered the tune today. I saw this question asked but never answered...
Can't you just run a jumper cable to another car (or idling car) instead of buying a charger to use once for a flash? |

Also, battery chargers are fairly cheap - $20-$30. Buy it from Walmart and once you are done, just return it. |

I'm sorry to ask this for the billionth time, but what can I really expect from this tune on the following car:
2006 330I Dinan Exhaust (6hp they claim) Charcoal delete & K&N. I believe 22hp was the figure but I haven't really seen a 330I dyno to back this up. Thanks. |

BPC does show a dyno with a '06 330i manual - on their website ... https://bimmerperformancecenter.com/...i-n51-n52-tune I'm under the impression that none of us have dyno'd a stock 330 or 328 (with 3IM) vs BPC Tuned that matter yet. But as far as "what to expect" ... The quote below is regarding a 330 ... I believe many of us have 328i's with a 3IM swap ... so we're essentially going from a 328 to 330i that's "tuned" to what a 330i is with the tune. I'd guess regardless of going from a 328/330 or stock 330 ... most of us will basically agree with the following quote. (although I don't think mine is a "totally different car" ... but definitely much much better. I have an auto trans if that matters) Hope this helps. Quote:

I wondered the same thing .... did a bit of Google research regarding the question ... never found anyone who's answered it. I'm guessing it would work in theory. I used a battery charger for both the read and flash, figuring might as well be safe; it only takes a minute to hook up a charger. I did have issues during the flashing of the tune; so I had to try reflashing it ... when that didn't work, reflashed the stock tune in order to flash the tune again. Without a charger, I wouldn't have been able to flash tunes 3 times in a row. That would've sucked! It's frustrating enough dealing with issues, without having to deal with the battery situation too. Agreed. It took me pretty much dead on 1 hour to download my info to MyGenesis and 20 minutes to flash the tune (each time). I bought my battery charger at Walmart with the intention to return it ... but decided to keep it. I paid $50 for an EverStart 25amp (got that many amps so can use it for my F350 diesel). You can get a charger with less amps cheaper, but was informed by BPC that at least a 15 amp unit is needed. I know my battery dropped 20% in the first minute and kept it steady throughout the process on a 25 amp quick charge. |

I have the Carly dongle on order but it won't arrive for a couple weeks, so getting a new battery is on hold. My jeep has a brand new AGM battery so I'm going to just run some jumper cables from the 328i jumper post to my (non running) jeep and do the download like that. I can even disconnect the jumpers from the jumper post for 10 mins a few times while it's downloading. I don't feel right about buying a charger, using it, and returning it. In my mind that's stealing, but I realize others are comfortable with it and whatever. (And I don't want to buy a charger I'll only need once when I can just run jumper cables.) |

Perhaps give BPC a call and see what they have to say about it. I typically have an alternate vehicle at my disposal so I'm interested to hear if attaching to another battery works. I was really on the fence about trying that, but decided to go the "sure thing" route. Totally hear you about the charger thing ... they're not something most people will use on a regular basis, purchasing one can be considered wasteful. |
