Best to save that technique for when you shop at Wang Yip....

On a serious note, I'm fed up with the lack of respect issue too, so I shop online, take the train etc whenever I can but if I have to leave the car for any period of time then I either visit outside of peak times, park in a side bay/miles away from everyone else or if there's space, I use two bays.

Having said that, does anyone know the legality of taking up two spaces? Our local 'Last week we had a gazillion prices better than anyone else' supermarket seems to have smaller than average bays, which makes me wonder if they've done what Walesy mentioned and kept the size to the bare minimum.

It's a free carpark but I think it might still come under the auspices of the local council but if you haven't paid for the bay/s is there anything they or the supermarket can do?

Obviously if it's a Pay & Display then I'd buy two tickets but again I don't know the legality of doing so.....can't see how it would be argued tho', as the carpark operator wouldn't be out of pocket!?

I don't think it's every polite to take up two bays - if the carpark is underutilised enough to take up two bays, then there is probably a deserted corner with no other cars around. Taking two bays invites someone to give you a key job.

However I'm happy to reject shops with too-small carparks and just shop at one of the competitors, even if they are further away.

Some people are utter bastards. They have no respect for other people's properties. No matter how shiny or tatty the car next to me is, I always make sure my door never touches theirs. My car has 2 door marks on the drivers side and 1 on the opposite side (complete with a hint of red paint!)

I must confess - when I first got my Mk5 GTI- I was once sitting in my car when a chavved up pink Playboy bling-ed vectra pulled up along side me. The equally chavvy and frankly awful woman slammed her door open into my nice new shiny GTi. She looked at me and just walked away. I got out of the car and expressed my displeasure at her, to which she never once looked back and just shouted "Sorry" in a not so friendly way. That was it, I was in a fit of rage - so I keyed the whole length of her chav mobile and drove off.

Sadly Kaishang, if we lived in a polite society then none of us would have to consider the dangers of leaving our pride and joy in a public carpark and this thread probably wouldn't exist - IMHO the fact that we do not live in such a society and people are either inconsiderate, jealous or petty individuals gives me sufficient reason to protect my property and consider 'my' options - the two bay parking being the last.

Perhaps I didn't explain myself fully in my previous post but if I inconvenience myself by parking 100 metres from the entrance to the supermarket in a quiet area but then take two bays to prevent some muppet from coming and parking too close and dinking my car then I fail to see how this invites someone to give me a key job, unless they are the kind of inconsiderate, jealous, or petty sort of person I mentioned earlier and would probably have dinged my car anyway had I parked in the normal way.

In which case the situation is a total Catch 22.

Given the size of this thread, perhaps we should all club together and set up some e90post car parks, that way we would know who we were parking next to and any rogue door dinkers could be black-balled, (or just tarred and feathered)

I agree with you; no harm in taking two bays at the back end of the car park. Until the car park fills up for whatever reason... and someone gives you a keyjob.

Some complete a**ehole door'd my M3 a few weeks ago. The car park was about a third full and I'd selected an end space with zig zag lines alongside of which I had used about a metre. The space next to me was therefore massive and mutliple free spaces were available. My only error was to park near the shop entrance. I usually park as far away as possible. This t**t parked his car next to mine, did his shopping and left before I did and when I returned to my car I was so angry and sad

The dents are tiny so I've touched them in and wet flatted and only I could tell where there were. It took me many hours to do though.

NEVER again will I park near shop entrances.

Sorry to hear that Ant Man - so annoying and all for the sake of a little care.

Sadly there are a lot of ignorant t**ts out there who have no consideration for other people or their property.

The old, "it's only a car" comment just makes me - I get it that some people don't understand the passion for cars/bikes (whatever) but I feel like saying "yes but it's still MY f***ing property and I'll decide the value I place on it, not you - how about we find something that you own & you care about and I'll needlessly damage that"?

I have a sneaking suspicion that these are the very same people who are most vocal about their own concerns but show little to no empathy towards the rest of us.....

Fuck fuck fuck.

I pop into Sainsbury's this lunch time for all of 5 minutes (even parked with no one behind me or to the drivers' side a reasonable trek from the entrance) and come back to find some wanker has put their trolley down the side of my car

All the way down the rear door and about half way up the drivers' door. Doesn't appear too deep but might be a slight dent towards the back . Going into Sytner Oldbury body shop on Monday for a quote.

Can't post pics but anyone idea of the £ damage i can expect to pay?

Two door repaint. £600.

Was the car parked on the level or slope?

Ouch

Where there any security guards on duty? In our local Sainsburys, the car park is patrolled / owned by NCP.
Definitely ask for CCTV.

With my old car I started by taking up 2 spots but still got done by a trolley... Sadly after about 4 or 5 dinks I gave up and just started "inventing" parking spaces literally next to the entrance to the cattle marts. When questioned by angry shoppers or "security" guards, I would act the same as the c^&nts that made me that way and tell them to tow it.... Needless to say, it incurred a couple more dinks but never got towed. I could have kept a chips away guy busy for 2 months sorting it out.....

Now I've had my new car only a day I am trying to work out the best strategy to stop it getting ruined..... I dont think there is any way of avoiding it

Shop after 8pm or very early in the morning and park on level ground at at the ass end of the carpark. If you ever park next to another car then pick a car with rubber strips on their doors.
