good lord, that's a lot of money. hopefully you/we will be able to quantify w/ longevity and power.

To be comparable, your upgrade should:

- enlarge turbine wheel
- enlarge compressor wheel
- fix wastegate issue, especially for those turbos with 6mm actuator rods

Seriously, I expect that the 8mm rods/wastegate version also need to be overhauled/replaced/enhanced related to wastegates issues. My current turbos in the car are pretty mint, low milage on those, latest design of course and still ratteling, even not that much like the 1st set of turbos.

In addition, a ballbearing upgrade would be very welcome. However, ballbearing upgrades are known for more oil-consumption of the engine.

Let us know about the scope, the details, not the company performing the upgrade. BTW, I wish you all the best with your project. Covering the installation costs is already a big commitment to a turbo upgrade ( about US$2200 where i live ). Plus turbos, plus upgrades. I expect total costs of ~ US$6100 for the turbo upgrade ( 2 good turbos plus upgrading and installing them ) . No tune included. I will keep my current turbos, so no core exchange. We are talking serious.

Although the price isn't finalized, I can tell you what will be coming to market soon (what is going in my car) will be considerably less... much closer to what people joke about when randomly posting what they wish a turbo upgrade would cost. I won't say a single thing more about that for now though

The nice thing about going with a reputable US based company is you don't need to deal with the high shipping costs or the high VAT over in the EU (at least for us Americans)

Ceramic ball bearings would be a nice upgrade over the stock sleeve bearings...

so the actual company (re)manufacturing these isn't located near Jjps... just the shop that will be installing it.

so now this could be any of the various turbo suppliers. Maybe PTE??

I wonder if you put a spring on the wastegate to hold it shut if there would be a noticable difference in performance.

Someone try it and report back.

I did it to my 2jzgte powered 2nd gen Lexus GS....

OUTCOME: BIG DIFFERENCE.

I have almost 40k miles on the original fuel pump, and never had a hint of wastegate rattle. I got lucky on all fronts.

EPL is my guess
Their site just had a BMW logo show up on it.
They have a mustang MD500-SE chassis dyno.
The work with a number of turbo vendors, ppl seem to like their alpha 28 and AMS billet upgrades.

If this is the case its great for the BMW community, EPL products are top notch. I am running their tune on my Porsche 996tt for close to 700awhp.

I think the thing I'm most excited about is to see how well the procede works with the upgraded turbos right after the install without changing anything. It will put the new methodology to the test! So to re-iterate, i'll get back on the dyno without changing anything and then of course things will be fine-tuned... the data is going to be really interesting

I know it will work. Just got my car, so I'm just cruising with it, not at the tuning part yet.

Why are you so excited to see the results without any fine tuning? IMO that's unfair to your tuner just as much as the new hardware...With such a big upgrade, wouldn't it be safer/more advantageous to take it easy on your car until you can get it fine tuned rather than seeing if a piggyback can "adjust"?

Regardless, good luck on the endeavor, I look forward to seeing the results! Even more exciting b/c you have awd to utilize all that power

we will fine tune it, but that can't happen until I see how it goes right away and do some logs! so that's why I'm excited, just curious how well it deals with it.

all of this is happening very soon!
