Wow, get a refund/demand a replacement; I'm pretty sure you were sent a piece of melted tupperware.

My middle was warped a tad like that but not as bad. I used a heat gun to somewhat mold it back in shape prior to painting. Looks great and fits great. I've had it for over a year+ now and no issues.

I bought mine quite awhile ago, never got around to having it painted/installed...until this week. Waiting for an estimate from the body shop and if it's reasonable, I'll probably get it on the car by end-of-week. I'll post pictures afterwards.

Update: Talked to the painter at the body shop yesterday and he showed me how porous the edges of the eBay Aero Lip are, which would require filling in. There were also numerous mold lines and other places that would need work prior to even primering the lip itself. All told, bodywork on the lip and painting would cost ~$500. The painter has a used OEM Aero Lip that he had painted before, and I bought it for $75. He'll repaint it SGM to match my bumper for less than $300.
Interesting fact that he pointed out: On a trip he took to the Spartanburg assembly plant, he saw numerous cars with their fenders on but no front or rear bumpers. He asked about it and was told that the bumpers are made and painted in a separate facility and then put on the cars as one of the final steps before shipping them out. As a result, many of the bumpers aren't a perfect match for the rest of the car, but it's very difficult to see it unless you catch it in just the right light. So...I have my original $35 Aero Lip that cost $65 to ship available to anyone who wants it. Probably would be fine for a track car where perfection isn't necessary. PM me if interested.

It's sad to see such poor quality stuff being sold on eBay now. I got my aero lip from the seller BaysonR off eBay last year when he had the e92 lips in stock. (I just checked and all he has currently are for e93). Fitment and quality was excellent for a replica lip.

Damn, you're right! The ad does say e92 and e93. So here's the link if anyone wants to try this one. $89.99 with free shipping!

oooooh the ebay lip...I just finished installing my ebay lip...it came out "ok"..
I ended up pulling the trigger on an 89$ ebay lip and I was highly dissapointed. Mold marks, bubbles, uneven thickness all around, and over all terrible quality. Fitment was actually, meh. The lip edges DO NOT even reach the fender walls. (There is someone else on another thread that had this issue). I wish I had the 'wrap around' issue the OP had... I contacted the seller and he was willing to accept the return but it was 89$ to ship it back! I knew I was getting hooked up with the paint so I just went with it. Prep work with a heat gun helped it turn out better. My strategy was to heat and 'hyper' bend certain areas, especially the center pillars, so when the lip went on the car, it would actually want to "clamp" on the car giving the 3M tape less work to do. This actually worked and gave the lip a tighter fit, which I'm happy about. I know that some people had issues with these. I on the other hand had issues with everything else! I ended up having to drill extra holes on the far sides because the holes on the lip were off by like 3/4 inch. Paint went pretty smooth except for the mold marks and the bubbles. These had to be filled in and my friend was not happy. In the end, the edges around the fog lights have tiny gaps because the lip is just crap, no other reason. Since it didn't wrap around the edges, I have a small arcing gap on the driver's side that I'll have to cover up some how. From a distance it looks good. Up close, it belongs in a Honda Civic ricer club. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for. At least this isn't a permanent thing and I can craigslist it or something in the future...Might post pictures later if someone would like to see the "mess". |

Just a follow up. I smashed the original on a curb earlier in the winter which cracked the lip but the original behind it was saved.
So I got another from baysonr, had it painted for 100 by my local shop, and mounted it up. The fitment is solid and fits like a glove. I feel bad for those that got bad ones but I would highly advise only using the sellers that forum members have used with success.

after reading this thread, i decided to ONLY order off baysonR off ebay. Got the lip really quick.
EDIT: Initially it didn't fit. But after some heating and elbow grease, it fits like a tight glove. fitment i would say is 9.5/10. Highly recommend Last edited by gtaguy; 03-28-2012 at 11:08 AM.. Reason: Got it to fit.... eventually. |
