![]() Also, I think a lot of BMW owners who spent 2.5x the money on this car than a subaru, are less likely to be kosher with wires and harnesses winding around their engine bay, bent pints, and boxes stuffed with a spaghetti mess of wires. Hacking up a $22K WRX is one thing. On a $50K BMW it's another. ![]() On the same note - there's also a lot less upper echelon modifications for this car than the suby's were relatively. It didn't take long at all for people to start swapping turbos, and having a selection of all kinds of turbos (multiple VF series, mitsu 16gs, even garretts and others) because of the relateive ease of upgrading the fuel system compared to this. So I think there'll probably be less really advanced (stage 3+) tuners sharing maps earlier on. there simply are less combinations of tunes as a function of less variability in upgrades. I had a first gen USDM WRX, and two years into owning it, I could have picked from dozens of configurations of bolt ons for stage 4 (all new fuel system, turbo, decatted exhaust, intercooler hoses, intake, FMIC or TMIC, etc). There were just so many options of bolt ons driving the number of maps floating around, and I'm not sure we'll see that very soon. My guess is in a year, the Cobb off the shelf maps will be substnatially improved, but there won't be a large custom tuned map base (as Cobb will probably provide the best Stage 1 / 2 maps). It'll be specific to the more common mod groups (like the meth guys) as it was with the big blower suby guys. Quantity of advanced maps will also be subject to how quickly cobb rolls out it's dealer base regionally. The quicker local tuners are dyno'ing these cars, the quicker the maps will start circulating. Dyno days are a big boost, as even people with just standard mods might spend a few hundred to tweak their tune and get their own runs on paper. Ever time someone posts up a "hey I got dyno tuned yesterday by Cobb" there'll be 3 guys saying "hey, can you send me your map?" Last edited by AWD Addict; 01-06-2011 at 03:25 PM.. |

I know you dont have an eta at this time, but there are many n55 guys wondering if you even have a ballpark in regards to the length. 1 month? 3 months? 6 months? Reason I ask is many of us want and need more power , and wouldnt mind waiting if it will be a month or 2 (at least me). But if your thinking 6 months or something along this timeframe, I will get something else in the meantime. Can you to the best of your ability give us a ballpark time? You must have some sort of an idea Thanks man |

ballpark = estimate, right?
So when he said he didn't have an estimate, what makes you think he may have a ballpark? ![]() Maybe you should see if he has a guestimate or a projection too? |

**edit**
If you accidentally order 2 units (something that might happen since you apparently stay logged in unless you logout) and then edit back to 1 the website says you have nothing in your basket and won't let you proceed (no pun intended!). Anyway, add me to the list of soon to be owners of a Cobb platform! |

For instance, I was tasked with leading the 2011 MAZDASPEED3 DISI OTS calibrations. We discovered that ~92% of the ECU data was the same as the previous year models that we had extensive experience with. Several weeks of R&D later, we have changed our entire approach to the OTS calibrations for this platform. This change has extended our initial release estimations. ECU behavior and operation is significantly different that the previous year models. In addition, minor differences in the vehicle hardware dictate that a totally different calibration approach was necessary to provide a quality OTS calibration for these platforms. This new approach include new custom ECU code that we had to compose, test, implement, etc. We pride ourselves on providing superior customer service and with developing high quality performance hardware...and the last thing we want to do is set expectations and disappoint customers because we cannot make the (now impossible) happen. We tend to communicate very well and we've already set up a BMW AP section on our forums to open the direct lines of communication with our engineers and staff. We will be sure to keep communications open for all that are interested. Some may not receive answers that they want, but we wish to be honest. Long-story-short, I would not want us to say XX comes out in 6 months, then due to the desire to offer a properly engineered, high quality EMS solution the actual release is 14 months later. I would not want to upset slapmyfro or others with unrealistic ETAs that set up expectations that allow us to fail...after all, I don't want my bafro (beard afro) slapped. Below is a picture for those that have never seen the goodness of my bafro. ![]() ![]() I apologize ahead of time for having to show you my horrible mug...but the coincidence with slapmyfro's name and my actual bafro were too close and I do not want to get my (ba)fro slapped. ![]() Take care, Christian. |

I just joined the board, I have a 2009 335I being shipped to me right now.
I had a jb+ that I'm now selling, and was going to go the Jb4 route until I saw Cobb. Both are fine tunes but the ease of use of Cobb wins hands down. This is going to be a great product and I agree 100% with those who say that most BMW owners don't want to mess with all the wires and wrenches to tune their car. I just want something to boost the turbos and get everything out of this car with as little fuss as possible. And this unit fits the bill. |

0-60 is a meaningless metric. 1/8th or 1/4 mile times and trap speeds are much more indicative of a car's performance. Or 0-100mph.
