Based on what you know, (please feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post your response publicly)...has BMW:
1) Identified the problem(s) with the HPP?
2) Have they made appropriate measures to ensure that the new HPP's are good?
3) If there are updated HPP’s, which month’s build was the first to incorporate them?

Any insight much appreciated.
I would very much appreciate the same questions answered for me as well. Thank you very much!

That may be true in theory, but not necessarily "failsafe". My HPP went out suddenly with no warning at 65mph and barely allowed me enough power to get to the side of the highway where it died and never started again. The techs at the dealership have had to push my car around the lot and in and of the bay during diagnosis because of this.

Hey,

I'm a e90 330i owner, but I have a 335i loaner. I was out of town this weekend and got the dreaded "loss of power" an hour away from home. Decided to slow down and take my time so that I wouldn't destroy the car. The car made it, but I went for another trip in the car and it is even worst now.

Should I call BMW Assist and get the car towed, or should I drive it to the dealership tomorrow?

Opps, sorry to thread jack. But I know at least what to tell the SA. I feel bad now, I loved driving the 335i because there is a considerable difference in performance. But I'm glad I don't have this issue of the HPP. I hope it gets resolved ASAP for you 335i drivers, you have one sweet ride.

Better have it towed. Because even though the car still works now, once the fuel pump completely dies, you're not going to be able to drive you car very much before the car starts to shut itself down. Better safe than stuck on the shoulder of the road for hours.

This is not true... sure, they might have a safty program... but it didnt work woth @#$%... I would start the car, drive for about 100 feet, then it would STALL, I would restart, drive for a few feet, then it would stall again...

Some people might have been able to drive in limp mode, but my car wouldnt drive more than 100 feet withough stalling out when the HPP went out.

BE VERY WORRIED, YOU CAN BE STRANDED... I was...

Funny thing is that I stopped and re-started the engine a few times and it took a while to start. On the last try it started up like a champ but the service engine soon light is still on.

Should I drive the car to the dealership on Monday or do you think it would be better to have it towed? I dont want to make it worse.

My car has 4500 miles.

OK So I just got off of the phone with Sears BMW and they said that they think that the problem is actually in the programming of the car. He said the only other thing it could be is a bad fuel injector. I asked about the fuel pump and he said he didnt think that was it. He sounds like he knows what he is talking about so I hope he is right!! They are also replacing the driver side seat due to a strange crease in the leather.

its the pump... its ALWAYS the pump... people get the software, drive for another day or so, then the pump poops out... I dont know anyone on here that had these symtoms, and then it didnt end up being the pump.

good luck though...

If your car's under warranty, you might as well try and have your fuel pump replaced. With the time it takes to get the fuel pump delivered to you, you might as well have your name on the waiting list already so in the event that it does break, you have a backup. And it doesn't hurt to have the pump replaced already since they're already opening up your car. But I'm pretty sure its the fuel pump too.

Not true in my case either. It will start but immediately stall and the engine light illuminates as soon as I give it gas.
By the way, my car has been in the shop for this for over a month now -- with still NO WORD WHEN I WILL GET A HP PUMP.

Well this is extremely worrying. I just got the car a month ago and now I have to worry about a fuel pump that may or may not crap out on me. Anyway good luck to those who have this problem. Hopefully I won't join you, but the way my luck is going lately, I would probably crap out on the LIE during rush hour.

I just got word from my SA. Turns out the fuel pump that they ordered for me is a direct replacement fuel pump. Meaning, it still has all the defects just like the original pump that came with my car. In other words, when this "new" replacement pump is installed, it WILL break on me again! grrr..

So I asked them when they'll have the new/updated/problem free pump and they said there are currently NO new/updated/problem free pumps available that BMW is realeasing at this point in time. I asked them when they would be releasing it and they said they spoke to people at BMWNA and they said there's no time table from BMW right now. I asked them why is it then that everyone else is getting new replacement pumps and basically, from what my dealer told me is that all the replacement pumps that everyone is getting are just a direct replacement and BMWNA has NOT yet released the new/updated/problem free pumps yet.

So what do I do now? I really don't know anymore. My local dealer even told me that even the new cars coming in still have the bad pumps! I've been very positive and very supportive of BMW despite this mess up but now I'm really starting to get annoyed with this whole situation... I expect to see BMW fix this issue very very soon or else...
