Batteries are simple stuff. I can honestly go into a lot more detail if anyone is interested or has any questions. To answer your question on what to do for a replacement: Buy a SLA or AGM. SLA is cheaper, AGM is roughly 2-3x as expensive and has the same lifespan. You must reg & code your car when you do it. You also do have the option of using a larger battery than stock as you are able to program in larger amp hours etc. You have to use your Bavtool to register it afaik. I would buy the largest SLA that will fit and can be coded in and save the $$$ vs. the AGM but that is me. These threads should walk you through the coding etc: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473109 & http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ry+replacement Remember if you go with a SLA they are all almost manufactured in the same shop and just get different wrappers. So get a good deal warranty doesn't matter much but they are all almost 2 years and then prorated after that. If anyone is interested you can get a new SLA for free every 2 years from Walmart no receipt needed. Edit: Z just read this thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ry+replacement New battery = better performance!

Calm down Bo.
Go to replace the radiator vent line (6), and the part where it connects to the upper radiator hose (1) snaps. Worst cooling system ever on this car: ![]() |

So I ordered a $3 shipped bmw key fob windproof lighter from china on ebay. Just came in and it works flawlessly. Amazing how cheap things can be made.
Like this: http://www.amazon.com/BMW-Key-Lighte.../dp/B005F9CT8M But i paid way less.

So my battery died to the point it wouldn't crank yesterday after running the radio for about 20 minutes. Torgus, I want to spend < 150 on a replacement, but don't want to lose much CCA or deep cycle life. Which battery would you recommend? I have an icom I can use to reprogram the ah rating... |

![]() How old is your battery? Did the car warn you with the low battery warning on the dash? If you have only discharged it once and it is semi new you can likely get it back in perfect working order with a jump start and drive or with a trickle charger. I would go this route 1st. If you are set on getting a new battery let me know.

the low battery warning came on, and i immediately tried to start it, and it did not start. roll started it instead since i was on a rather steep hill, and drove it around for another hour or so, so it is now charged back enough to crank over, but I have every confidence that the next time we get a 20 degree day, i'll be stranded. Especially since the low battery warning came on after just 20 or 25 minutes of listening to music at a low volume, no fans running, car in accessory "mode" |

BMW OEM White Battery (lead acid): 12V 90Ah 720 CCA <-min specs. The correct replacement battery for an e90 is a group 48 battery. The group numbers define the physical dimensions of the battery case. This is important as some applications call for specific case sizes in our case a 48. Here is a good do it yourself video: I ran out of time to search for places for you to buy the batteries so i just did a quick search. Interesting how cheap the AGm version is, only $55 more. http://www.batteriesplus.com/product..._Optional.aspx http://www.batteriesplus.com/product..._Optional.aspx $189 vs $134. So there you go $134 is under the $150. I am sure you can find an even cheaper battery if you look hard enough. The 900CCA don't know the aH of the AGM but it has to be higher than the SLA and given the price I think I would buy the AGM. I'm now thinking of buying two myself, one for each car for this season as I swear both are on BMW batteries, I just don't know if they are original...

amazon has a sale on acdelco AGM batteries, works out to $99 shipped.
according to ACDelco, the correct battery for my '07 e9x is 94R. For an '09 335xi, it lists that the 94R, 48, and 49 will all fit. They all are identical in size, except for the length, 49 is the longest, 48 is the shortest, 94R in the middle. 900, 850, and 760 for the CCA numbers, 160, 140, 120 for RC. They don't list the AH ratings, though... I measured the battery currently installed in my car, and it is a group 49. Next is to try to determine the AH rating so I can properly program the car. |

Okay, found it on this page:
http://www.dstgateway.com/ACDelcoDocuments/Spec ACDelco parts: Code:
model CCA RC AH H W L 48AGM 760 120 70 7.5 6.9 10.9 94RAGM 850 140 80 7.5 6.9 12.4 49AGM 900 160 95 7.5 6.9 13.9 OEM 720 160 90 7.5 6.9 13.7 I'd like to keep at least the same ratings, so I'd like to get the 49AGM that's slightly longer than what's already in there. There's about .2" of room in the clamp, and maybe my measuring isn't quite spot on. i'm hoping i don't get screwed. just learned about the VO coding of battery capacity, looks like 95AH is not an option, but 90AGM is pretty close, which is what's in there now... so the charge rate will be slightly lower than it should be, but only by a tiny amount http://amzn.com/B006N91BLY Last edited by vilord; 11-25-2014 at 08:39 PM.. |

The e90 shit the bed this morning. Flashing SES, and dumping fuel on the driveway...

SES came on for me as well today, not flashing though. Good luck :/. Battery also came in today, so if I have time I'll hook up isid and check what's going on, and then drop in the new battery
