My dad's 98 Camry was bulletproof.

Only major thing we replaced in the 21 years we had it was the starter that went out at like idk 175k miles

Sold the car in 2019 for $1800 when it had 185k miles.

I just saw it a few weeks ago at the carwash

After a 3 year hiatus, I got back in the bike rack game along with two new bikes. Time to stop being lazy.

Removed the snow tires and gave it an Italian tune-up.

So happy I didn't buy the VW dieselwagon last summer. There is no way it would be as satisfying as an e91.

I bought a 3D printer to be able to bring ideas and designs into real objects. And of course first thing I had to try was making a disa valve shaft lol. It works very well for a self designed part with no previous experience. Goal is to eventually make an entire disa valve to try in my car.

Here it is being tested in a small valve. Some noise as it has 0 grease inside but it shows it working well regardless:

There's nothing better than a reliable car. My 02 Buick Park Avenue has about 175K on it, nothing has ever broke on it. Only had to replace 2 plastic coolant pipes that had a slight crack in them.

I wish we didn't sell it.

Now that I think about it, I could've used his Camry as a winter beater. I should've just brought it off him.

Main reason we sold it was the driver's side door was hit a while back and it was somewhat bent from the front (where the door meets the fender). So, when it rained or snowed, all the water would get on the carpet and whatnot.

Then the car needed some other things repairs like the shocks and struts went bad (had them replaced at 75k), and it was getting pretty rusty. My mom was afraid the car would break down or something during the winter and we would have to drive 1hr to pick my dad up (his job is almost an hour drive). Or he'd be in a cold car freezing while we got there to pick him up during the winter or something.

So, we ended up selling the Camry, buying an E-class and my dad took the 14 Accord I used to drive before I brought my E90.

Other than that, we put in a new windshield (the old one cracked and started leaking water from the top window seal), both rear wheel bearings were replaced before we sold it, new front brakes including pads and rotors, and rear drums including shoes.

Kinda stupid to sell it imo. Would've been a good winter beater or good car for my brother who just turned 16

Ps: He ain't driving my car

The 330 moved under it's own power and left the garage for the first time since I started the rebuild last Nov. I only took it down the street a couple hundred yards and turned around, enough to see that it goes in forward and reverse and stops. Had one code for steering angle sensor plausibility DSC 5E40, that went away after I did a better job eyeballing the tie rod adjustments. Had one weepy hard brake line that I didn't do a good enough job flaring, put a better flare on that and leak free now. Went and made a appt for the alignment rack Tues. AM, can't wait to take it for a real test ride.

I'm waiting for temps to get in the 60's so I can hand wash it and apply some wax

I can't take the water hose out yet since the pipes might still be frozen.

The basement isn't finished yet so, no drywall and stuff to be worried about. But, there are a lot of boxes and crap down there

I've been using a california duster. I know it's not the best thing for it but better than touching it all covered with dust and I have to touch it to work on it. I've been waiting for the ice to melt to get it out of the garage, you can see the last of it down the end of my driveway. My hoses and pressure washer are in the basement so it doesn't freeze and crack like my last one did lol.

I've been using California duster too. It's been catching dust since sitting in the garage.

I don't like when it sits in the garage but I also don't like driving it in the snow

I did drive it in the snow at the beginning of 2020 because well I worked. So, I had no choice.

Now I don't work or anything so whenever I had to go somewhere, I'd take my mom's Sienna

I've been using Meguairs 3 in 1 wax. But, I've heard Meguiars Paste Wax is 10x better. I have the paste wax sitting in the "box of detailing" supplies. Idk if I should open the paste wax and use it or just wait until the 3 in 1 wax is finished?

Out of curiosity, what wax do you use? Or what wax does everyone that's active in this group/forum or whatever you wanna call it use?

I'm old school, IMO nothing shines like real Carnuba. It's not the most durable but that's OK if it's a car you enjoy working on and waxing now and again. That said I'm sorely tempted to try the new Turtle Wax Graphene flex wax on my trucks, I don't really enjoy waxing them just want to protect the paint for as log as I can.

I think I've got an addiction

There's more in the "detail box" than the stuff I posted pics of

The Gold Class Carnuba wax bottle is almost empty. The nu finish car polish I used once on the Accord when I drove it.

The CMX Idk, I feel like it's decent but I don't think it does what the bottle says it does.

The 3 in 1 Is bs too. Doesn't remove swirl marks. It does hide them for a bit though.

I apply all this stuff by hand btw. No machine

I first saw NuFinish in the 70s, my grandma had the first of everything she was ahead of her time bought this for her LeBaron from an ad on late nite TV, it's been around forever. I wouldn't put it on a nice paint job but it brings back chalky paint on a beater real nice. Not a fan of the multistage products, I use a separate polish before wax. I polish with a porter cable orbital and orange and black pads (I don't polish every wax just when it needs it), wax by hand.

I might just go back to using normal wax.

I feel like these new "Ceramic" waxes are just a marketing hack.

Nothing special about them.

I think their main "advantage" is durability, which would kill you outright if you could only wax your car every couple years. The real wax shines and beads the best, it just doesn't last as long.

That's what I am thinking.

What brand wax would you recommend? Mothers?
