This is a merc thing atm, I've seen it on their newly released S series by memory

http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/content/...tails/amg.html

I reckon those stripes would look ok in silver or blue to match the bmw roundel, but agree red doesnt suit the engine bay

Agreed DrJ, red just didn't look right. Oh well, not everything turns out to be a good idea

BTW what do you make of the LSD, helical or plate? why do you think they would quote "gear type" on the paperwork??

The shipping paperwork lists it as a "gear type" but I thought these only came in a helical format??
Definitely the right part number MF-TRS-05E46A and seems to match the photos on the MF website, so might be a Taiwanese typo

Hopefully will get rid of the wheel lock at low speeds and the vibration at high speeds.

Will let you know when I pick it up in a week or so
Awesome! Was a real stuff up, glad itll all be fixed up for you.

Gear type is correct, the LSD has helical gears inside of it.

mfactory E9X diffs AFAIK are all helical 'gear' type diffs.

Cusco manufacture plate type diffs along with os giken.

Ultimately a clutch diff is best for locking up albeit they also tend to wear more then a helical torson diff.

Race car = clutch (great for the track, with excellent diff locking properties, albeit are noisier and less reliable then a gear type diff setup)

Street car = gear (smoother quieter operation, albeit tend to act like an open diff)

Mfactory make clutch diffs, Phil was sent a clutch diff for an e46 by accident the first time around

This is true. Currently the only E92 in Aust running a modified E46 clutch diff.

There is a good reason for that btw

Its almost impossible to turn out of a side street and onto a main road without the back end grinding and stuttering as the rear wheels lock.
You end up inching your way across the road, with the rear wheels hopping as you complete the turn.

Actually its really dangerous to drive like this, because of how slow the car travels when performing this maneuver.
I have had a few close calls over the past week, so have largely had to limit driving until the diff is replaced

So far the whole thing has set me back over $3K for the diff, kit and modification.
Steve at Active said he will get this sorted out next week and we can put this sorry tale behind us

Haha doesnt sound like much fun socks, mfactory have a 1.5way 2 way clutch LSD coming out in a few months time to suit the 335i if you want another clutch diff

Car is in for new LSD fitting and respray and touch up to freshen up the paint work. Want to rewrap the roof next week in gloss back or CF vinyl. Any suggestions where to take it in Melb for the wrap work. Not keen on taking it back to CarX

Which panels are being resprayed?

I got my roof wrapped in Gloss CF, but it's still textured and doesn't have the clear look I wanted.

That said its grown on me and I don't mind it now.

Front bumper, side skirt and a couple of touch ups on the rear bumper
I like the CF wrap but there are a few to choose from

Wouldn't that just be buying vinyl wrap? Its not that expensive, the hard part is installing it properly.
