1947 Ford V8 Super Deluxe Sportsman 'Woode' Convertible
with 100 hp V-8 When introduced in 1932, the Ford V-8 made 66 hp. Four years later, it was bumped up to 85 hp. A "Baby V-8" of 60 hp was also introduced. The V-8s outsold the base four cylinders by far.

Chevrolet's answer to the import car invasion was the Corvair with an air-cooled opposed engine in the rear, etc. The transmission was not a high point: Base 3-speed manual or two-speed Powerglide automatic.
This is a first-generation car as produced from 1960 to 1964. Initially at least it was a bare-bones economy car listing for just over $2,000 with a 3-speed manual. The automatic was a $146 option. In 1965, a second-generation car that I remember was quite attractive was introduced. It stayed in production until 1969. Safety advocate Ralph Nader attacked the Corvair as unsafe due to suspension design and the resulting controversy effectively killed the car by 1970. https://en.wikipedia/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvair

But a genuine turbocharged engine was later introduced as the Spyder; its 2,372cc flat six offered 150 hp and 210 foot-pounds of torque. Here's a convertible Spyder.

Here's a second-gen Corvair. It's got all the expected features: fake wire wheels, whitewall tires and a skinny steering wheel.

I found this place in Big Spring TX by pure happenstance on a road trip home with a newly acquired r53 last summer.
So I had to stop there again and take a pic with my newly acquired e91.

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300S Cabriolet
In 1955, the 300S cabriolet was far more expensive than the famous 300SL Gullwing. The U.S. list price was $12,457. The 300S was in production from 1951 to 1958; 203 Cabriolets were built.

Not exactly "cool" but my Dad had some odd second cars over the years. They were always inexpensive; a VW Beetle would have been an extravagance for him.
I believe when I was little he owned two Crosleys. Crosley was a Midwest auto manufacturer who made very small cars -- bordering on microcars -- in the 1940s and early 1950s. They were pretty conventional in terms of front engine, RWD -- just tiny. Curb weight somewhere in the 1200-1400 pound range. Four cylinder 724cc engine. My memory is fuzzy on the body style; I think he had a wagon; bought used of course. Crosley went out of business in 1952. In later years, he had a Morris, a couple of Fiat 600Ds and a Renault Dauphin. He never could stretch to get a VW. After he retired from the Navy in 1968 and became a cattle rancher he had a pickup, of course. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crosley
