If I can see a real-world 400whp dyno SAE corrected on pump gas with ATR, I will dump this POS meth kit for good!

Hey man, no worries . I too was fooled by the $649 JB3 + DCI deal... back in June of 09...but I just read a lot more than I posted.

I bought my JB3 for $250 that had version 1.2 on it! Man, time flies.

This is what many on here have an issue with when it comes to proper FI tuning and the vodoo Terry/Mike push.

There are too many people on here that get a car, want to mod/boost it, don't know much, and just buy the inexpensive solution because it is cheap and gives "power"...mmmmm...grunt grunt...without really understanding FI tuning fundamentals.

Most of these people have join dates of less than 6 months, then they jump into these discussions without knowing 3+ yrs of history, all the while they thought their "tune" was great because the dyno showed all sorts of big power gains. And it turns out, they all couldn't be more wrong. Yes it gives power, but how does it do it? That is the crux.

I will give you credit, you read, learned and got involved and finally came to the understanding that JB is crap for FI tuning. It goes against all basic and fundamental FI tuning principles that every tuner out there implements on the N54. Why is that? Does Terry know something that they don't? Of course not. They all know how to do something correctly that takes a lot of time and effort. Terry took the easy way because his understanding and abilities left him at that point.

Then he took a stance that it isn't even required to directly control timing via the standard methods that are available and we all know about. He has himself in a rock and a hard place on the subject.

Thank God for BMW engineering and their knock sensor/DME logic to save the JB's ass everytime it starts slamming 2x the boost into the cylinders to "REACT" and pulling timing to stop massive detonation and engine damage over and over again reliably.

Its fine for FBO, but catless DP will throw a CEL until they make a fix probably in stage 2. Ask CLap he runs FBO on stage 1 seamlessly.

...that, or you can run a hardware based DP fix like the BMS downpipe simulator. I've been using it with stock ECU and with GIAC S1 for over 6 months now and its seems to be working fine.

Running stage 1 on FBO car, no issues here except wanting more power

Well the JB4 map 5 really is working perfectly fine for me. I will just wait for the stage 2 to come out, it shouldnt be too long. I would rather do a before an after dyno at COBB, one with JB4 and one with COBB stage 2. I do think Terry is headed in the right direction with the JB products though; and I will continue to send him logs to help him further improve the JB4.

Yeah, I am sure I would be fine. But I wont be around Plano for about a month anyway, thats when I will go by the shop, pick it up, and dyno.

Looks like this thread got Terry's ass in gear, he is now playing with cps offset. Amazing what a couple of word do.

Wow....I'll be interested to hear what his response to flip flopping would be, haha. He's spoken against it so hard the past years, and he's deep in the hole of conviction that proactive timing control isn't necessary; can't see how he can climb out of it with keeping respect and dignity intact.. It'll be interestin to say the least, ahah

I dont really agree with this, I will actually respect him more. I dont see why anyone would want him to keep creating something thats not as advanced as other products. I have not heard of him adding this to the JB4, are you talking about the JB4+, clap?

If you knew what I started liking at the beggining you'd laugh at me. at the beggining I thought Dinan was the shit... as time progressed and I learnt more and more I started changing my mind and fast forward two years later, my 07 335i is still stock and I ended up getting an N55 135i to satisfy my hunger till the whole fueling issue is resolved and also waiting to see what HPF comes out with.

From what I see his CPS offset module will be an add-on. I wonder how the jb4 will interact with this module though. Run an unused output from the jb4 into this CPS module? Good to see him finally seeing the light.

Some more info on it for you.

Quote:
OK I'll help out on the technical explanation of the photo a bit.

1) Both signals are of the crank position sensor.
2) Channel B is the OEM signal while channel A is the replicated/fake signal.
3) The motor is sitting at idle. 674.3 rpm to be exact.
4) The photo shows a freeze frame of the missing tooth portion of crank signal. Technically the hardest part to deal with.
5) Channel A is offset exactly one normal tooth to the right. Which is a 3 degree offset. If there were a 1:1 relationship between CPS offset and actual timing advance this would be called a 3 degree timing retard.
6) Technically the device doing the offsetting is a modified JB+ board.
7) So far no misfires at the shift using a static 3 degree offset from 4500rpm+. Much more road development/mapping to do so we'll see how that all pans out.

I'll write up some more info after I've had a chance to finalize a few things. But the short story is we've decided to design an inexpensive CPS module to slip in the JB4 harness. Primarily for large turbo and nitrous cars where we think there will be some benefit but it will be available to anyone. Rather than bother convincing you that you don't need it we'll just offer it as an add on. Makes life easier for everyone. It's going to probably look similar to our drop in SLD (photo of that attached). One of the wires connects to the JB4 to allow it to remap up to 14 degrees of offset based on internal and user adjustable algorithms. The JB+ processor we're using for this right now isn't fast enough to allow for a positive offset but I've ordered a few that are about 50% faster for further testing on that.
