I believe I am the first AWD auto to do the Pure upgrade and I am wondering if it is tighter than other cars? The coolant pipe is very close to the turbo. I have a gameplan to get the turbo out without taking out the pipe, but I am not positive it will clear. We will see tonight!

This pic is after I took a bunch of stuff off. Boost solenoid bracket on the engine is off to get more room and I took the coolant reservoir off after this. 2 bolts on the wastegate bracket, the feed and return line on the turbo and then pull the clamp in the middle. I really want to get this thing wrapped up tomorrow night.

I'd be curious to see a pic from the bottom shooting up at the turbo once the water pump and thermostat is out. I took mine out from the bottom and that coolant pipe didn't affect me too much other than forcing me to pull the turbo from the housing before removing the last bolt holding the wastegate rod in place. I also got the rod wedged against that pipe when putting the new turbo back in.

There is no way it is coming out the bottom on an AWD car, I can barely get my hand up in there. Mine will have to come out the top. I also was not planning on taking the water pump out, but I may have to pull the hoses off of it. I have enough off now where I might be able to get it out without pulling more off. If that metal coolant pipe was off then there should be no problem, but I am worried I won't get the bolts back in. I just can't get my hands in there well at all.

Here is how it sits now:

It won't have enough room even with the strut brace, water pump, and thermostat removed? That's the only way I know how to remove that sucker.

All 3 turbo's that I helped with all came out the top. Others doing it differently? You could get it out the bottom but you'll likely need to remove an engine mount and lift the engine on the passenger side an inch or two.

It is very tight. One of the cars was a 2011 335xi 6 speed manual and we had so much more room on the non-xi cars...

Get that plumbing out of there

Oh, and that coolant pipe does NOT need to come out but it definitely provides more room if you do remove it...

No, you have axles in the way :P I am pretty sure there is enough room to come out the top.

I removed my turbo from the bottom. But I'm also non-xi.

For you guys that took the turbo out the bottom, did it come out between the radiator and the cross member, right where the water pump used to be?

Do you guy's still run the BMW standard spark plugs with the Pure turbo / 20psi pressure or have you gone colder?
I think there's some hp to gain.
Does Pure Turbos have any recommendation?
I haven't decided on which turbo upgrade to choose yet, thus just thinking out loud...

Yes. Slid it out and then angled it wheel side down to get it out. Plenty of room that way for me.

Yeah I did. Kind of rough starts but it runs great with the colder plugs.

Tonight was awesome. I got a chance to run my friend who I have been in a friendly competition with since I got my car. He has a 2009 N54 that's FBO w/ meth. I need to confirm but I think he might just have a smidgen of E85 or none at all running the 93 octane BB Flash. I'm still lacking the backend flash and 3.5 bar sensor but that probably won't do much.

Here's a video before the upgrade while at the track this summer. Notice how easily he pulls away.

Jump to 44 seconds

This was tonight after the Pure upgrade. To eliminate any driver error we just did a roll in 4th starting at 55 mph up to around 70 or so. Unfortunately you can't see the N54 car so you'll have to watch the shadow from his lights. You'll get the idea though. Super close but it looks like he got about 6 inches on me. haha.

Here's a log from that run...

whose got the back-end flash?

I want to upgrade our car with it, but have some questions, maybe someone can shed some light.

1. the file is provided by terry, right? there is only one that is posted on N54tech. is that the one we should all run regardless of mods?
2. my biggest concern is fuel trims, the car with race gas was bearly sustaining 12.7-12.9 after 5500 RPMS. If we can get those in the low 12s would make me feel much more secure. Will the back-end flash really help those get down or an inline pump is needed? how to tell if AFR is limited by software or simply because the oem pump cant keep up!

Best,

Daniel
