only happens when it's cold, never when its warm outside. I'm in the states until april 2011, warranty expires may 2011 back home and i have CPO as well. If i miss my original warranty expiry will it be still covered under CPO?

Mine came back again after bringing it to the dealer a couple of weeks ago. I'll make another appointment. Not sure what they'll do to my vehicle. These are the parts they replaced when I brought my car.
1. Torx Bolt 2. Profile-Gasket 3. Rectangring 4. Gasket ring 5. Collar Screw 6. Hydr. Valve Pushrod |

I had the lifters replaced about a year ago. The ticking was less frequent and didn't last as long, however it still happened after short trips.
I took it in for a bad heater blower, seatbelt and the ticking. Dealer was great and said they needed to replace the head to eliminate the issue. No problems, no pushing. Just waiting for the head other parts to come in. I also talked to them about putting the 3 stage intake in with programming since they will have it all torn apart. The SA was going to get back with me on the cost. He and mentioned about this before that they could put a performance package on it which was the triple stage intake, performance air-box, exhaust and programming for a good boost in power. |

Basically three times.
- First time they said it was OK - Second time it was ticking in the bay and then got the new lifters. - Third / this time I said it was still ticking. The SA called back later and said they need to replace the head and it was on order. I have to go back in when the parts come in. They have really been very accommodating and easy to deal with. |

The dealer is giving me some bs excuses. They told me to take a video/recording of it and show them. I brought them multiple recordings and videos and then the motherF***ers told me they aren't going to do anything unless they could reproduce the problem. So I walked out and it was ticking but softly. The problem I have is when it ticks like a blacksmith banging on some iron. So I marched back to my SA and he said it needs to be like really bad for them to do anything. What do I do at this point? If they know it's a problem but won't fix it, Is there a next step? I have a feeling I'll get the same crap from another dealer.

My car is in to get the head replaced. Just got a call from my SA saying that the parts came in and they will have her ready by tomorrow.
For those wondering if they replace any fluids while changing the head....the answer is no. My SA told me they only drain what's in the head and top off after they are done. So much for a free oil change.....oh well. |

My car is waiting on authorization for head replacement. Any suggestion on what to watch out for? Second time it is in the service. Lifters were already replaced 5 months ago.

I figured I would share my N52 lifter noise with e90post ( I deleted the personal info. on this one for You Tube ). This video is with the new lifters installed. It is obvious it is not fixed. I have 14 videos at this time with newspaper dates, and the cars information. My SA has 8 on a data disk. At last visit he is waiting for the field representative to come in to discuss the issue. The rep. will be in sometime in January. So I am just waiting with this soothing sound about 9 days a month.

Dropped car off on Monday to get the head replaced along with the heater fan, and a new driver seatbelt that wouldn't retract.
Just picked it up tonight (Thurs). Took (4) days for everything including a brake fluid flush and the cabin filters that were due. They had to replace both VANOS solenoids as well since they were throwing a fault after the head install. They also did an oil change and added or replaced the coolant. Seems to be running good. Not much difference, maybe a little smoother and running strong. Didn't have a chance to get on it to see if there is a performance change. SA said it didn't need to be broken-in however I may try to take it easy for a while. Five pages of repair work. Sure am glad it was under warranty. Just curious if after the lifter and head replacements if anyone's engine still ticks after starting a cold engine in the winter weather? Only time my engine ticks is right after its started on a cold morning and trying to decide if it is worth it to go through the lifter replacement and then the head replacement.

We got the lifters in our '08 328xi replaced a few months ago. The engine was quiet until last night, and now the tick is back. Like some of the other posters, I will make a movie of the ticking engine and today's newspaper.
Update: A new cylinder head was just ordered, but will take a few weeks to arrive. I am glad that warranty will cover this.
