They are all over the place. Wrecked X3's are a great source. They are anywhere from US$175-250 at wrecking yards near you.

Favor the low mileage ones and make sure it comes with the DISA valves.

I found one 40 minutes away and had it in the car same day. Job takes less than 2 hours from the time you walk into the garage.

Once you've done it before, you can knock it out in a little over an hour.
Thanks for the info! I'm thinking about replacing my starter as preventative maintenance while I have the manifold off. Seems like a good idea considering a new Bosch starter is only $130-140.

Bimmergeeks can put the factory 330 tune on remotely, that will get you working DISA and a tune that takes advantage of the intake.

All dependent on Hass & Terra. It's their work. I'm just the guy that logs in and flashes the files they've built for those who don't know how to flash.
Wish you were capable of doing this for us right now. I've had a 3SIM sitting idle for 2.5 months now because of a lack of ability in using it and I can't swing $1k CAD for a BPC tune for my daily... A stock 330i tune would be a huge upgrade as it is.

We've made a lot of recent progress actually - thats why I havent been posting here much.

If you've sent me a PM, and I haven't responded yet - I'm not ignoring you, just working on Bimmerlabs as much as possible.

If you need the tune quick, I'd get in touch with BimmerGeeks about our "stock" 330i tune. The file he's flashed for a few others is the same one I built, it's reliable.

You could always get a more aggressive tune through us when we launch the service. Promise it won't cost you $1k

Bimmerlabs has a nice ring to it.

That would be incredible and is all I'm looking for until I'm able to go all out with MILVs and headers in the spring.

Yeah, those guys are really great. They can remote flash you and get the base tune for the 330. It's a noticeable improvement, but not life changing.

For those that have an automatic with the GM transmission I would definitely consider having them do that flash as well. The combination of recent updates to that code and the 330 tune will make a big difference in the auto cars.

I think Bimmergeeks has stopped being a sponsor here so I'm pretty sure they can't talk business any longer, so just reach out via their website or call them up directly. The flash for both takes a whopping 30 minutes or so.

What exactly is this flash for our GM transmission? I've tried searching for more info but couldn't find anything...

Its a factory calibration for the GM transmissions - for cars that have MSV80 and a 3 stage tune.

I don't think we can yet do any custom stuff for the 328i AT but we can for the 325i/330i.

Haas beat me to it...

It wasn't until Terra started ripping all these tunes apart that a lot of this became clear to some of us in the bleacher seats who were following his posts re his investigation and trials (though in retrospect it seems obvious). When you change the power at the engine, you need to adapt the transmission as well.

BG flashed my gearbox and the difference was VERY positive. Mine was running it's original 2007 factory calibration code/tune, which has since been improved by the factory to improve performance, so not only did I get a revision update, I got the 330 tune to go with the tune on the engine, and together they are totally worth it.

This got me set up pretty well. Follow it 100%.

I just picked up a BimmerGeeks cable as well! Might have to make a move, install the manifold and get a 330i tune on there.

Just found the thread...excuse me for not reading everything and asking questions which are already answered

I bought an 325i N53 this year and also investigated in this topic. I was always wondering if it es easier to copy the 330i maps to my 325i software or to take a 330i software directly and match the power class (plus RSA correction and so on...). To be honest, last is my favorite.

So as far as I understand from the last sites, you are working on a tool which does exactly that!? Have you investigated if this process is nearly the same on different DME? I can imagine the feature of checking power class is the same on different DMEs...
Maybe I can support here and we find a solution which also matches to MSD80/81.

It's easier to flash the 330 software and edit the powerclass byte. Or you can even flash a custom program that allows the power class to be changed even after 10 hours, which would allow you to use stock 330i software.

Haven't worked with any of the N53 software, but I imagine it's close enough the N54 MSD80/81 code (which we do know how to work with).

you have to modify the boot code either way, so it makes more sense to just start with the 330i file rather than trying to cobble together a frankentune.
