This might sound like a dumb question, but as I've not seen anything about coding on the e89 forum, can the NCSExpert coding be done on a 2009 Z4 e89 with iDrive?
I've seen in some of the instructions for coding a 3 series that you have to choose e89 to get e90? So is NCSExpert ok with an actual e89? All I want to do is code the head unit from basic stereo to mid HIFI? The maze of information out there is just making my head swim. I've seen this wizard, is this all I need : http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1562077 Surely with all the threads on this post there's more to it? Also seen this about the VO http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&sou...Fo44PA&cad=rja I know there's plenty of experts out there, but not much for novices on the bottom rung of the coding ladder? Cheers, David

You would use E89. Download the program files on the first page, order teh cable. Then follow the tutorial step by step on the first page. At some point after that, watch the video also posted on the fist page. Everything you need is there. Not sure which values you have to change

AUDIO_SYSTEM_CIC stereo * hifi top_hifi m_individual_sound Change "stereo" to "hifi" for AUDIO_SYSTEM_CIC.

davidmbell, what benefit do you get for changing basic stereo to mid HIFI? Is the purpose for adding additional hardware to the head unit or are you enhancing the sound/features of the stock hardware?

It looks like someone has figured out how to code halogen for xenon and also have high beam function. All credit should go to DIMSUM and DESI4LIFE10 on the other BMW forum that is linked below.
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1600012 Update: Got the high beams to turn on again (Thanks DIMSUM). It isn`t the same command line as the older models. When you add the xenon lights in the VO option, this line gets updated to this: PWM_ANST_FL_BIXENON wert_02 wert_03 With this setup, the high beams gets switched to your xenons and since we don`t have that bi-xenon wire setup, you lose the high beam feature. What you want to do is get the halogen bulb to be you high beam like old times. In order to do this, you need to first add the xenon option in the VO $522. If you start the car up after this, you will get the self leveling error because by default, the leveling feature is usually installed with the xenon lights. No problem. Using ncs expert, go into the frm module and look for this line AUTO_LWR_ENABLE aktiv change it to AUTO_LWR_ENABLE nicht_aktiv To get the halogen bulb to act as high beams, change the line I outlined at the start of this post to this: PWM_ANST_FL_BIXENON wert_01 wert_01 You must have both those lines there. Voila, you have retrofitted your xenons. You can then tap the high beam wire (for your halogen) to your xenon shutter wire to get the bi-xenon feature. This is for the bmw e90 cars (although it should be the same (not 100% sure) for the 1 series and X3). Thanks guys for your help. Disclaimer: Do it at your own risk. Vehicle coding should be done with the proper tools and knowledge. Also, I'm going to use OEM pre-lci US xenon housings, OEM ballasts and D1s bulbs, with adaptive modules (I have the OEM adaptive module as well, not to be confused with self-leveling). Did you use adaptive headlights? And if so, does the adaptive work? I understand self leveling won't as neither you nor I have installed the levelers on the suspension, I'm just curious if the adaptive part works if you have OEM adaptive modules. Thanks! So long as you have the adaptive module that comes with the headlights (judging by you post, you should have em) it should work. A VO number does exist for just adaptive headlights (still need to add the xenon headlight VO $522). The VO code for adaptive headlights is $524 (according to the vo code list ) The adaptive feature takes angle readings from your steering wheel, which should do the trick (not 100% sure though). Hope this helps. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by DESI4LIFE10; Yesterday at 08:11 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Great job on retrofitting Xenons to a Halogen car!
I think on page thirtysomething Junior also said he's coded in a Xenon retroit. I want to do this very badly too! But I'm happy with my Depos and I'm going to get the upgraded full LED AEs for the Depos. Maybe if I come across a cheap OEM projector set, I'll do it

I do want to give props to Junior for his work as well! I thought he mentioned that his high beams weren't working, and not sure if he got that fixed, but I saw this post on another forum about getting high beams to work. Excellent job to all!

Thanks orangedawg (saved me fromt typing it here) :-)
Coding is soo addicting and I am glad I have xenons that work just like OEM :-) No need for resistors or fancy ballast etc. Next step is coding the adaptive features :-) |

********************* hehehehe It was a pain in the butt to solve the halogen to xenon conversion, but I successfully did it on my car before I let DESI know. |

1) Standard head unit mode "stereo", outputs a very filtered signal with its own internal amp (4x25 watts or thereabouts) to 6 (poor) speakers. 2) "HI-FI" mode, outputs an unfiltered, flat, 5v, low level 'line out' signal to external amp (11 or so speakers). 3) Full "Logic 7/Hi-Fi Pro" mode - outputs via MOST BUS Fibre Optic - sends signal to external MOST BUS capable amp, and 14 speakers (then also enabled decent graphic equaliser on head unit). I have installed my own Hertz Speakers and Vibe amp, but am having to use the high level input of the amp, to receive the feed from the stereo as it is in MODE 1 (above). The problem being the sound is so badly equalised to compensate for the poor speakers, that that equalisation is messing up the sound created by my Hertz speakers and amp. Take a look here for an example of the equalised frequencies : http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...41&postcount=1 So, if I can code the head unit (CIC) to be in mode 2 "stereo" I can then use the normal input on my Vibe amp, and have a flat frequency input, ready to be amplified and fed to my Hertz's. With me? Just need to work out how to do it. I'm nearly there I think, watched videos, read FAQs, read this thread... Made an offer for the lead, but waiting a response. David PS all of the above is cheaper than buying a JL Cleansweep to flatten that equalised output.

I agree, somewhat useless. It's come in handy twice. Driving to miami with sunroof open it started pouring out of nowhere, I turned on the wipers and the sunroof closed. My passenger was impressed
