The rack is not what's causing the center play
It's a very easy fix I had that problem years ago
What is it then? That little guibo in the steering linkage? It didn't seem bad to me when I checked

Made a work turntable for wheels and painting and stuff that is better to spin in front of you than walk around. Not technically a E9x project but I did use a front hub bearing from my 330i and some scrap wood I had laying around, and gonna use it to refinish some curb rashed style 161 and 162 wheels, so tangentially I'm not off-topic.

You go girl! You'll be a carpenter yet, what with all them mitered corners and everything.

PS. I just noticed that rotten bench in the background. I take it back.

it was either this or accept that commission to work on the Notre Dame reconstruction. I stand by my decision.

The rotten bench just got found at the back of the shed with the leaky roof, it's time for outdoor projects.

Well they need yard-apes at Notre Dame too. Lots of heavy stuff that needs to be moved around, I'm sure.

To your untrained eye I'm sure it looks like crap, but here in the wood-screwin biznis it's known as "rustic".

HaHa. In all seriousness though that is a cool idea. I'm surprised that it took you this long to come up with the idea considering all the work you put into cleaning, polishing and painting all those parts for the 330i and, to a lesser extent, the 325i. One suggestion for you to chew on for a little bit, some sort of brake system for it so you can quickly lock and unlock it in any position.

It's a small bushing you can do that repair yourself also
Just do a look up on the problem

thx pal. I never did wheels before, that just seemed like a natural to spin in front of you, and I had those bearings from rebuild and a pile of wood left over from this and that, it kinda made itself I knew I shoulda put the rotor and caliper on it too damnit!

Filled it up with fresh premium gas after two weeks for $50. That's how much it cost me to fill it up a year ago too

I ordered the Chemical Guys Swirl Remover kit with polisher, it's time to get serious about the paint.

Laid down the last of the clear (4th time) on the hood. Debating how I am going to paint it still. Everything should be wrapping up in the next few days.

Also laid down some seam sealer on the roof. It came out BEAUTIFULLY.

mocked up my $28 amazon catch can.
quality is what you'd expect.
the rough machining is fine, but the finish work like de burring holes was obviously overlooked.
A 3/16 masonry bit handled all the deburring.

It was advertised to fit a n54 car and the manifold pressure sensor is really just in the way, so I'll drill and tap some new bolt holes and it'll be mint.

this is likely completely not needed, but there was a fair amount of oil in the intake last I pulled it and I just put new DISA valves in and would rather not again.

serviceability will also suck, so I'll have to figure out a drain valve, I will probably run some golden rod to a remote location so I can put a pan under the hose and pull the handle.

Coated the 325i glass with Griot's glass sealant, it went on and off as easy as rain-x, hopefully it'll last a lot longer. I polished out the windshield with Ceriglass polish first so it has the best chance of sticking to pristine glass, time will tell.

Much respect for the level of detail you're putting into this rebuild, it's gonna be cherry.
