Not BMW related but I think my Buick has seen its last days.... the trans is slipping through all gears and shuttering as well. Checked the fluid, didn't seem THAT bad. Pulled 1 quart of fluid out and replaced with Lucas. Still having the same issue. I really don't want to just get rid of the car, but idk what to do

That's my next step I think. I really wouldn't mind throwing in a used trans, but the problem is time. Going through a break up, having to move out, putting most of my stuff in storage and finding a new place to live. Now this happens....lol thats life I guess.

Wiped her down, polished the rims, again, polished the exhaust pipes, again. Wiped down the interior to remove all of the pollen from the top being down.
Ordered an upgraded Intercooler from ARM: https://www.armmotorsports.com/produ...tercooler-fmic Ordered a floor jack, an electric wrench and some torx sockets for the install.

Finally addressed exhaust issues via use of an old-school exhaust shop.
I have known for some time that I would have to have a professional address what seemed to be the solid clump of rust that was formerly known as the set of flanges up near the cats. I have to do some driveshaft/center-bearing/i-don't-know-what-all work this summer and nothing could happen if I can't separate the exhaust and lower it. The plan therefore was to take it to someone to drill out the studs and replace them with regular bolts and/or do more work if it was more than just rusted bolts. I figured that whatever this cost it would be better than trying to struggle with it with my car on jackstands and me on my back (I don't have a lift). Sawzall-ing my exhaust 6" from my face was not a job I was looking forward to. Then, I developed a pretty obvious exhaust leak which became increasingly hard to ignore over the past week. So, I took it to the exhaust shop ("Everyone says take it to Don, he's been there for 35 years...") and in a few hours I had the flange removed (solid chunk of rust and unsalvagable) and two new short sections of pipe welded in, overlapping with a clamp holding the 2 sections together. $150 No leak, quiet again. And most importantly, easy to separate when I need to drop the exhaust to do work later this summer. It's probably good to stay that way (with the clamp), but I may when all is said and done want to buy the actual flange pieces (which seem to be about $40 each plus gaskets?) and go back to something more original. On the other hand, if this works, maybe it can stay. At 212K on the original exhaust there's a decent chance that I'll end up replacing stuff down from the cats soon enough...and maybe at that time I can come back to whether it makes sense for a more OEM approach or not. |

Finished up replacing the valve cover and gaskets. Took 2 days, much longer than expected. Spark plug tubes and breather hose held me up. At 59k miles, old gasket was extremely hard and brittle, especially on the exhaust side. Used the URO brand cover from ECS that came with a genuine BMW gasket. Seems to be a good quality part.

Chased down a intermittent engine rattle to the accessory belt tensioner. I thought it was a loose DISA valve, AC compressor pulley or alternator but using a mechanic's stethoscope, I could hear the tensioner's bearing crunching in sync with the rattle. The tensioner is an INA Slovakia one with only 23k km on it

Drove my car to work today. Drove fine.
I go to start the car after work. Fires up fine and then a few seconds after, everything goes blank. Headlights turn off and back on, the radio turns off and back on and the redback gauge light turns off and back on. Then I get the 4x4 light. Went home ran the codes. Too many codes for me to read so I just erased them Hopefully, nothing pops up tomorrow. Weird thing is, a few days ago I tried to unlock my car with the remote and it wouldn't unlock. I have keyless entry. So, I put my hand behind the door handle with the keys in my pocket and nothing. It was like the car was dead or didn't recognize the key. After like 5 tries of pressing the unlock button on the remote, the car unlocked. I wonder if this all can be a sign of a bad battery or a leaking ValveTronic motor gasket? Idk if I should drive the car tomorrow. Last edited by Mosaud1998; 05-24-2021 at 11:02 PM.. |

I would say a bad battery would be a good place to start

Swapped my turbos again, this time to some RB One's. My fathers car needs some wastegates so ill be putting my old Rb stocks onto his. Actually have a spare set of inlets for him but now even second guessing putting them on
Also installed the M3/E92 C-pillar plates. Fairly easy to do but the bottom bigger rivnut can be a bitch to compress. Last edited by neilvan; 05-25-2021 at 08:35 AM.. |

I got around to installing my fenders (Loosely for adjustments)
Unfortuently the outside of the door had one flaw. I'm going to have to fix it. To 99% of people they would never notice. I want it perfect though. Going to install all the door insides today.

I hit a poorly patched road and it cracked the windshield, rear view mirror popped off and put a bubble in the rear left tire. Nashville roads…do you think they just went to lunch and will come back to fix or are the boxes left for recycling to pick up?

Cpet you are a brave person. I was going to do the valve cover and gasket myself, but after watching a lot of YouTube "how to" videos I decided to purchase the parts myself from FCP Euro, and let the shop do the labor.

@tcphoto, ouch, sorry that happened to you/your car. I live in the city in Richmond, VA, I deal with monster pot holes and that horrible "bang" when the car hits them all the time.

I will say that Nashville's Legal Dept has been quick to respond, they must have a lot of experience with these incidents...I got the impression the damage will be fixed quickly. Although, I guess that I fit in nicely now that I have no rearview mirror.
