I can't help but notice how no one is demonizing the driver because he's not a teenager. If that guy was 18, the forum would be going off about those damn kids and their high performance cars.

What state do you live in? Just so I can be sure to avoid the roads you're driving on

This is why everyone needs to go to a driving school and learn how easily you can lose control of a vehicle at high speeds and end up in the grass and or dirt. It is very humbling. It is also humbling to hear/learn how even the slightest throttle movement or hand movement can upset the balance of the vehicle at high speeds and completely throw the weight around and put you in some tricky situations. I always remember that when I take a street road that has a bit of a pothole causing the suspension to completely drop and completely distort the car. Aka the car can't do what "it was built to do" unless driving on specific surfaces.

Wow this brings back memories of a violent crash I had in 1992. Ours was much much worse and I cringed when I saw this video. We went off a 40 foot cliff and rolled 7 times down a mountain and luckily we bounced off a huge rock and slammed into the ground just short of a 100 ft drop.

Things happen so fast when you drive off the cliff and all the BS you say as a teen that I can jump out of the car before it happens is false. You have no time to react and your life can be taken in a second.

I do remember my friend at the time yelling as we kept flipping and bouncing to make it stop and I couldnt do jack shit. The car rolled over my right wrist 7 times at over 2000 pounds each time and totally shattered my wrist in 7 places. A pen went through my knee just under my patella. Other than that I was shaken up pretty bad buy my friend who was the driver had to go to the ER due to his head being split wide open, loss of blood and shock.

I was wearing stonewash jeans that evening and when my friends head hit the windshield it shattered and as his head flipped back, blood blanketed my left leg like someone dumping hot water on my leg. Talk about right out of a movie.

Luckily, our friends were following behind us and saw the entire thing. To this day I remember a white Jetta that saw the entire crash, didnt lift a finger to help us. Such a shame.

The last thing I might add is moments before we went off the cliff I told my buddy to slow down and to put our seat belts on. Usually we never wore them in HS. Low and behold they saved our lives. I had a ball cap on at the time and it was 100 yards from the crash site and I remember the Sheriff saying "see that cap? That's where your body would have been if you would have not had your seatbelt on.":

Anyway sorry for rambling on but this brought back 1992 so fast.

I'm gonna make my son read this and watch this video. I always tell him him to be responsible and never ever get into a car with a drunk/irresponsible driver. And that I would pick him up from anywhere at anytime rather than him get into a car. Also, I tell him if he ever wants to go fast, to just tell me and I'll take him to the track.

Glad the guy's ok.
Not trying to shit on anybody...
But look at the way this guy's driving!! He is all over place, crossing yellow line and coming back around...I'm certain that this is a two way road.
Should be thankful to be alive.
Next time take some race car driving course before trying to drive in such a hurry curvy roads with cliffs on the side...seriously.

Any legal/insurance issues given what he was doing?

um yeah, from an Insurance guy that is reason to not cover any loss as he was obviously in an "exhibition of speed" with his buddy.

Glad he's ok, but damn 2 total failures driving like that crossing the center line. You reap what you sow......
Yep. Spirited driving and being an idiot are 2 different things. Got what was coming.

Whenever you (regardless of age) want to step on the gas to show your car's horsepower, think about your loved ones, including your parents, spouse, girlfriends/boyfriends, kids, and/or just friends, etc. It's not worth the risk. That's why we have tracks.

Exactly! He was looking around the corner (correctly) but going WAY too fast and paid the price. The car plowed straight off the cliff! I'm surprised we didn't hear any expletives while he was on his way down!

True. I recently drove with a young professional race car driver. He could drive certainly... but had the same invincible attitude that I had when I was younger. I have not been more scared on public roads than that trip. My point is that on average younger men have a higher likelihood to make bad decisions behind the wheel. Add a high performance car to the mix and it's scary IMO.

Consider yourself fortunate for having the ability to purchase your own M3 at a young age (I'm assuming that's what you are insinuating).

Nice vid
But next time can you please shoot it with the new Gopro 4K camera?
The quality was a little lacking

Glad to hear he's ok
But I'm thinking he may have exhausted his supply of driving luck
Better take it easy from now on

It is a scary feeling with no control rolling down a hillside at 2am in the dark. We thought we were invincible at 17 years of age. That was a real eye opener for me at such a young age and I cannot and will not ever again not wear a seatbelt in a car. The Sheriff was so right with his statement about my ball cap.

The amazing thing was that my friend Rob in all his pain and blood loss was able to get out of the car while I was stuck in the passenger side yelling and he stumbled around to my side and was pulling my door which was at least 1 inch under dirt buried. Thats how hard we landed. I still am amazed at that. He finally got the door open and he collapsed. Friends rushed down the hill with blankets and walked me to the car and they carried Rob to the car and we raced to the hospital. I really thought Rob wasn't going to make it due to so much blood loss and dipping in and out of consciousness. But he made it.

His exact words from my yearbook:

"Always remember the crash April 13, 1992. I was a real dumb ass driving that fast. I should have known being a semi decent driver that I can't control my car on that kind of road."

Now looking back he was not a semi decent driver at 17. None of us are/were. That's a fact.

Anyway back to OP.. Thanks for posting the video.

He made a bad call, like many of us have.

He lived to tell the story about this one, but he almost payed the ultimate price. Hopefully the lesson was well learned, next time won't turn out the same..
