Mods

I am new to this forum as well as BMW so apologize in advance if this is not the appropriate sub-section. I recently purchased a 2010 335i X coupe and it has exceeded all my expectations! Now I understand what is meant by the "Ultimate Driving Machine". I am looking at various up-grades and not sure which direction to go. Before everybody gets their panties in a bind I will not question whether this will effect warranty, that's my problem anyway. I like speed and was amazed that I was able to get my stock 335i up to 158mph w/o any problem whatsoever. This was on a quiet stretch of E470 east of Denver (Redline and Trapster do work). She felt like she had much more in her, but did not want to push my luck.
I am looking at Dinan (CAI, exhaust, intercooler, performance programming, etc), COBB (performance programming/intercooler package), as well as the plethora of aftermarket air intakes. And yes, I do like stinking badges to go with my mil stuff - SF, Abn, AA, CMB, PthFdr.
So for the money and expected performance is Dinan worth it or is COBB any better/worst? (they both give me a beloved badge). How about the Dinan CAI? (it looks cool but is it superior to AFE, INJEN, K&N). I estimate all Dinan upgrades will cost @ $6k (installed), COBB @ $3k (installed). How about the BMW aerodynamic kit, again worth it or better alternative? Also, is a nosemask a Bad idea? Eventually some Motego black rims too, but will save that discussion for a later date.
Let me know your thoughts particularly regarding Dinan vs COBB or if there is any other performance products worth considering. Thanks in advance!

I don't think there is a choice there, Cobb FTW (had it on my STI and with the ATR function it's unbeatable, have JB4 on my B).

I am considering the JB4 and BMS intake...I have two years left on my manufacture warranty and an additional 2 years for CPO. I believe you can clear the codes so it will show that the tune was never in. After reading this, it's scaring me to get it lol.

I have an '06 325i. No engine mods, but I'm looking at a Dinan cold-air intake. My car is Monaco Blue. The only mods I've added were changing the "chrome" kidney grill to black "carbon fiber", changed all the blue of the Roundels to match the grill, and put a set of 18" M3 wheels on it. I recently installed two parts that block the orange reflectors on the headlights. For a 7 yr old E90, she looks good. It's paid off, and just hit 71K miles. I'm a new member, so when I can, I'll post a pic.

Gorgeous car! As an E90 owner, I'm hesitant to accept the new F36(?) I was in the showroom at BMW Tucson looking at the 320i for $34K, and I couldn't BELIEVE how $hitty the interior was. I wouldn't pay $14K for that car. The American 320i is an embarrassment for BMW. Hell, the E36 318i was a better car.

Great thread. Just picked up an E90 328xi, 2 years of CPO warranty left. I asked my SA about suspension, exhaust, etc, and he strongly recommended waiting until "the day after my warranty expired" before doing anything at all, other than BMW Performance parts.

Looks like tint, audio, bigger stock wheels, and the Performance Exhaust is gonna be about it for me!

Forgive me for not reading the entire thread, but does anyone have any experience with aftermarket warranties being voided or have had claims rejected because of aftermarket parts that were NOT tied to the claim being made? Aka, does Magnuson Moss Warranty Act apply to third party warranties?

My car is currently in the shop getting its turbos replaced through an aftermarket warranty. The car is FBO, and has had some other warranty work done in the past too like water pump, etc. Now none of these replaced parts were after market of course. I dont expect them to replace my Downpipes for example. in general they have a good idea about what usually goes wrong with these cars, so you should not have issues getting coverage. Also, generally warranties offered through financial institutions are better and less likely to deny coverage.

With the N54, especially early models I strongly recommend getting an aftermarket warranty. The warranty will most likely pay for itself, especially if you dont have complete records, and some big ticket items have not been addressed.

Thanks. I had purchased a warranty through my credit union, already paid for half of itself with the oil pan replacement.
