Dzenno at PTF said the quality of the California 91 octane is actually closer to a true 88 or 89 octane.

I'm inclined to agree. I couldn't run my jb4 map 1 well without a little e85, it pulled a lot of timing without.

thanks for the update Robert. Sucks about the misfire issues but hopefully dzenno will figure out a solution.

for the N55, the only pure stage 2 cars I have seen that run consistently on E85 blends are running the JB4 as well. And even then, misfires still show up on some cars above 19ish psi while others can run 24 psi without issue. so the jb4 is always an option, but you loose 6 cylinder logging which is a big deal IMO. I am not sure why BMS hasn't implemented this for the n55, at least for the cars that can be flashed. If Cobb can read all 6 cylinders, it would seem that the JB4 could access the same info.

I know how frustrating and time consuming it is to test new maps and the results are the same, I have been there. looking forward to your updates on 100 octane and keep up the good work!

That's horrible. Isn't higher octane gas supposed to be more economical? Why do they not even offer it? Here they're planning to move everyone to your equivalent of 93 because 91 isn't good for efficiency.

Does anyone know what the stage 2 will make with a downpipe on 91? Low 400's?

Yes, but I'm still working on it. Retuned the engine on 96 octane and it dyno'd at 372/395. I'm going to repeat the pump gas dyno as the PS2 dyno posted at the beginning of this thread was done under different conditions and I want to have a valid comparison. Planning to install a HFC in the DP after that as I don't want to go catless, will retune and repeat dyno after that. Will post my results, might take a couple more months for all that though.

So for stage 1, you dont need to change anything, but what about stage 2, anything need to be changed or upgraded.

Update: I repeated the dyno testing on 91 octane yesterday - same map, same gas, same mods, same dyno - just to verify that the results I posted at the beginning of the thread were accurate. Peak numbers were a little bit higher but no major differences. Here is the graph:

Here is the recent dyno on 96 octane gas (half 91 octane pump gas, half 101 octane unleaded race gas):

Next mod will be a high flow cat.

Are you running a tune? That's awfully low for what you have. You could do FBO and e85 and expect 370+. I'm not flaming, I am just shocked at how low it is

Stock N55 with just an FMIC upgrade, E30-40 blend, and real tune will usually make 340-350whp/400-420tq.

If you read the OP, he doesn't have any e85 stations by him.

Yep, PTF tune. Tried running E30 but with PS2 turbo Dzenno couldn't tune away the misfires, it needed more fuel volume than stock fuel pumps could supply and I didn't want to get into fueling mods at this time. Thus the 96 octane blend w/ stock fueling system instead. I was able to get a dyno run without misfires on E30 though, here is that graph:

Numbers aside, the car is actually running really well and I'm having a blast driving it as my DD. But I too expected more from the PS2 turbo. As discussed earlier in this thread, I wasn't sure whether it was the 91 octane gas or the exhaust restriction from the OEM cats (or both) that led to the underwhelming numbers in the OP. So I am trying to systematically evaluate that by first repeating the dyno with higher octane fuel, and then again after I install the HFC. Stay tuned!

good luck with pushing it further!

does your tune allow you to log? I think that would be helpful. I'm surprised you went PS2 without meth or DP's! that's a big investment before dealing with the major restrictions.

I do get it though that catless will make it smell and meth can be a hassle

Any updates? I'm currently FBO and moving to Irvine, CA and am considering a PS2, but would like to see dynos of your PS2 and DP with 91oct. Gonna miss 93oct + E85

I did install a catted DP but am still working on retuning with PTF, which is taking longer than expected. Did dyno it last week and max HP was 368 on 91 octane but torque curve was funky, I think due to dip in boost between 3-4.5K RPM. I'm hoping Dzenno can fix that with flash only tuning, and that I don't have to get a JB4 for boost control.

368 isn't bad on 91. Probably a little more room left for 93 if you can get it, or run a blend of Torco/race fuel.
