Are those the port-installed prices? Those typically have an install charge built-in, while the MSRP on the first page is just for the parts. Also, FYI you can usually negotiate like 10% off the MSRP of the port-installed stuff.

Wow. $100 per horsepower. BMW is certainly looking out for #1.

Depends how one looks at it, you might also say we all paid about $150 per horsepower for the first 320 of them so $100 each for some extra might not be too far out of line. Personally I'd rather have the HP and torque anyway than an extra $3500 in the bank, it will provide me much more pleasure invested in the car.

Someone please install this kit and post the Dino results. I'm overseas so it'll be a few months until I get the opportunity…

Sorry, I meant to specify (Thought I did, but apparently I failed), that is port-installed. They said the installation cost is built into the price. That would explain it then, I think.

If your goal is HP/$, why are you buying a BMW (and especially not an M car)? As many have noted, you could get the same power cheaper via the after-market, but everyone always knows that, so why keep beating a dead horse?

American muscle is where it's at for that, usually. And the new rustang is actually surprisingly good. (If I didn't need usable back seats, I'd probably be buying one of those instead).

Thanks Jay, I must say you guys did come through.

I'm getting my kit installed next Friday! Ended up going with the stainless tips and my dealer came through with what I consider a good price at just over $2,900 out-the-door.

$2900 out the door is a great price!

I'm not necessarily interested in more power than what I have, but the majority of the commenters seem enthralled. The fact remains, it's not a particularly good value quotient (compared to many other options), but arguably neither is the brand in general.

It's all relative and I justify it this way. A 3rd party exhaust for my X5 is $4,500, that doesnt include install or a software upgrade. A BMW exhaust for a M3 lists at $4,400 w/o $1,000 tips. No software is included from BMW. To me, $3,200 seems like a deal for two things plus piece of mind for another 44 months, 47,000 miles - no taking off the tune when going in for an oil change, no logging in to check error codes. It's a worry free system that wasn't cobbled together and it gives you better sound, -.2 0-60mph, and Hp/Trq bump.

Dinantronics Sport. $300. 30 HP.

I'm sure you can find some rationale to spend ten times more. The fact remains, it is not a good value. In fact, it's likely the absolute MOST you can spend for that performance increase.

huh? That doesn't include a cat back exhaust and Dinan doesn't have anything out yet for the 340i:

It could come with a nuclear fusion generator. The fact remains is that the $3,000 kit only adds 30 HP. Valid point about the B58...currently.

That's a silly analogy because no one wants a nuclear fusion generator on their BMW. Some people do want full exhaust systems, even though they really don't add much in terms of hp. Full exhaust systems (mid pipe plus muffler) go for $1900 or so roughly for the 340i so far. In that context, this is not a bad value. If your point is that a full exhaust is a stupid mod on a car you don't own, congratulations, but you should probably take your campaign of righteous indignation to the launch threads of the AWE and Dinan exhausts as well, for consistency's sake.

It's an expensive 30 HP. That's a fact. That's my only point.

p.s. I have MPE, so I'm pretty well versed on what it does and doesn't do.

p.p.s. I also have a nuclear fusion reactor, sooo....

Don't waste your breath. If anyone considering the 340 MPPSK was concerned about a good price to performance ratio, they would have went to a 335i, or skipped straight up to an M3

MPPSK might be relatively costly but not having to worry about voiding warranty is definitely worth it! Especially when purchasing extended warranty in my case

Any of our dealer friends have insight into the port installed invoice for the kit and both sets of tips? Would be really helpful for those working on deals.

So you spent $1,500 for zero HP with the MPE? at least I'm getting 30.
