Every brand of gas in Houston has 10% ethanol......

This is gay......is it really that much of a difference?

There is a chance that the ethanol isn't what is making the difference. We can't say with 100% certainty that the ethanol is what is making the difference. What we can say with certainty, is that locally, the car we tested lost about 25hp when switching from 76 to shell. The Ethanol content is the only notable difference.

On the other hand, you guys are running 93 all the time, so you have an advantage anyway.

76 was one of the first stations to add ethanol, and they have been, in the Bay Area for the past 5-6 years. 76 used ethanol when everyone else was still using MTBE. Shell has been doing this too, since the 2004 ban on MTBE.

What probably happened is that you got summer reformulated gasoline, which is designed to reduce emissions during the heavier driving seasons of summer. It has reduced energy per unit weight.

More than likely, you got summer gas which sucks.

Sunoco definitely has 10% ethanol in Jersey. Saw it last week at my local station. Still sticking with Shell for now.

Again, it's not the ethanol. RFG sucks.

ALL the gasoline sold in CA has ethanol in it. all other oxygenates have been banned. Thank the Corn lobby :P

So are all gas stations required to have a 10% ethanol label on the gas pump? (if in fact there has been ethanol added of course)

I just switched from Chevron to Shell...I'm still on my first Shell tank.

We have 92 oct in Wa State....but I don't think I've ever noticed a ethanol label before

Not sure if they are required...but I think if they do have ethanol, they will put the sticker cuz they will think it will be a selling point. Most people will get a "green" feeling if they purchase gas with ethanol and most people don't know that it has less energy content than gas.

Good read. Thanks for shining a little light on the situation, kit. Bottom line, so far it looks like 76 is holding the title for the best summer gas formulation.

AFAIK, June 1st is the required switchover... it's possible that 76 just doesn't have it, yet.

-kit, who is sad because he just got a shell gasoline rebate card

Filled up 2x with the "now standard" 10% Ethanol Mobil 93 octane gas and so far it's business as usual; TQ Curve remains at the 94% across the board and not seeing or feeling anything different.

Shiv or Dustin. Can you run these maps without T'ing into the IAT or speed signal? What will happen if you run it without these inputs?
