thanks...!

Yes, I did. Received mine okay in brand new, sealed packaging. Works fine. Only complaint was the shipping charges were not as originally promised in the listing, but that's only cause I was in Hawaii vs. the 48 states.

Has anyone tried this:

http://www.scosche.com/scosche_ipod....&ItemID=IPNRFC

Looks like a decent product which is specifically designed for in-car ipod use.

I'm curious too. There's a post earlier in this thread but the OP never followed up...

Can someone post an updated link to the sound professionals website for the right cable? I know this is probably a very simple thing but I just don't want to get the wrong cable and the link on the first page isn't working.

Also, do I need the SIK Ram Din as well or will the Monster charger and the sound professionals cable be all I need? I'm a little confused as to what I need the SIK Ram Din for.

Sorry for the dumb questions...it gets a little confusing after reading several posts on the same topic with a lot of back and forth.

Absolutely the Cleanest Hookup

Guys,

This is the best way to hook up your iPod to your BMW. I have been looking for something like this for a while now.

I don't think this could be described as 'the best way'. It's not as good as the monster cable for a start because it doesn't charge the ipod.

If you use the headphone port you are relying on the ipods pre-amp, which is not ideal. You will get better sound quality using the unamplified 'line out' connection from the dock connector.

Given that the iPod battery issue is a highly contentious one...
For those who have a Nano and don't need/want to charge the battery, I think that this is the cleanest and best way.

You can create this cable yourself for much cheaper.
1. You can buy an iPod connector here:
http://home.swipnet.se/ridax/connector.htm

2. And then use any old 3.5mm cable you have laying around your house and solder it to the connector.

I plan on doing it this weekend and will have pics if anyone is interested and is handy with a solder iron

Good info guys, I bought the Monster charger and I'm thinking about going with the iJet (standard, no LCD). Anyone else have experience with the standard iJet?

FYI, I was not happy with the monster setup due to the huge dock connector plug and I didn't like that the 3.5mm jack was at the dock connector rather than the lighter. I preferred the Belkin design but hated the internal amp. In the end I bought the belkin and spliced the audio leads into a 3.5mm connector bypassing the belkin amp and volume control. Here is the photo that i used for reference.

Has anyone found a nice, attractive, reliable RF Remote for the iPOD video yet?? I still think the Scosche looks the best, but I have heard bad things about it (unreliable and works with a delay)... I also heard negative comments about the two-way RF Remote by iJet... and the one-way RF remote by iJet looks kinda lame... any other options out there??

I bought the Scosche RF remote, seems to work fine even when the IPOD is tucked away in the center console.

just wondering if the monster cable low profile charger cable can withstand some beating. when i drive i want my ipod out of the glove compartment so i leave my ipod outside then close the glovebox. does that cause damage to the wire?

I read this entire post and finally bought the Monster Power cable and the 3.5mm audio cable and it works fine with my Ipod. The charger does turn off the ipod when the power is off, and restarts in pause when you start again. A bit of a pain to open the armrest and restart the ipod every time...

I am just curious, what additional functionality would I get if I were to get the dealer IPOD option in the glove box ? I know its expensive and I saw some bad reviews, but just want to clearly understand the tradeoffs.
How exactly does it work (or not) ? I don't have I-Drive, so would I have any control over the Ipod, either through the steering wheel controls, or through the radio buttons ?

I have a similar setup ready for my car (I'm still waiting on the car hehe). I have the Monster iPOD charger and and aux cable... but I also have a remote with remote adapter (scosche), so when i turn the car back on, i can just press play on the scosche remote and boom... music is back.

I actually like the fact that it turns the iPOD off when you turn off the car... right now I have an iTrip connected to my iPOD for use in the car, and it's a real pain to turn the thing OFF every time I get out of the car... not to mention 1/2 the time it WON'T TURN OFF... one of the many problems I've had with iPODs (grrrr).

Anyways... all I'm saying is that it's a good $50 alternative to your own $400+ solution (IPOD option in glovebox)

i think from having the option you have the usb port to plug into. then you can charge your ipod using the usb port which also reads your music from your ipod. on the dash you can view what your currently playing and find sounds using the buttons on your bmw instead of the ipod. personally i don't think it's necessary when the price plays a role. also the aux sound is just as good when compared to the usb i think, wouldn't be able to tel the difference

I got a 'belkin sports jacket', which is basically a rubber cover for the ipod.

This protects it from scratches, but it also makes it totally non-slip. So it can sit happily above the ashtray while driving and not budge.

On a long journey, if I think I am going to want access to the click wheel I leave it there. Otherwise I leave it stowed in the armrest. Works a treat.

The downside of the aftermarket ipod kit is that you have NO access to the clickwheel and the functionality is much reduced compared to the original apple interface.

I agree if you don't want to pay for the dealer or factory installed option. I bought one of these from onsale.com for $7.99...sounds great! I ordered it on a Tuesday evening and with regular shipping, I got it on Thursday.

But you can't charge and listen at the same time with that.
